A common card in more sets than I can count, and
the epitome of elegant design - and even
powerful design. You almost always do well if
you have more mana than your opponent, and if
your deck plays faster than your opponent, and
Llanowar Elves gets you to those places
consistently. Whether it's forming the
foundation of an elf tribal deck, forcing
someone to stare down a Troll Ascetic way
earlier than they should have to, or teaming up
with Gilt-Leaf Archdruid to steal the ground out
from under your opponent's feet, Llanowar Elves
does it all.
Magic The Gathering Card of The Day: Llanowar
Elves
Welcome back readers today's card of the day is
Llanowar Elves a card that has been a around
forever and a day. While not offering the mana
fixing of Birds of Paradise Llanowar Elves can
do what the Birds cannot, swing for damage.
Being able to accelerate your early green mana
development is a powerful tool and Llanowar
Elves has seen play extensively throughout the
years. In standard these days this classic is
somewhat outdated but it gets play in elves and
mono green decks. In extended and eternal this
card see's play once again in elf decks and
stompy deck variants heavily. In casual and
multiplayer elves are quite popular and this
card allows you to ramp in game breaking spells.
In limited if your in green picking up a few of
these wouldn't hurt, it accelerates your mana
and provides a creature which is important.
Today's card of the day is Llanowar Elves which
as a one mana Elf Druid that taps for a Green
mana is an excellent source of acceleration for
any elf deck and a wide variety of other Green
builds as well. There's really no drawback
and it feeds into any number of second and third
turn bigger plays making it a fixture across
formats for years.
For Limited there are few commons better than
this as a 1/1 for one that provides additional
mana. If the rare is poor enough this can
even be worthy of a first choice, but generally
in Booster pick this second or third as support
for a Green rare. In Sealed this is almost
always worth including in your deck as long as
there is even some Green basis of a deck as it
is generally a powerful color in Limited
formats. An extra mana advantage is hard
to beat if this is played on turn one and with
the right hand can lead to a very strong
opening.
