Your opponents' level up creatures can't level
up. Putrid Leech is stuck as a 2/2. Master of
the Wild Hunt still makes tokens, but he can't
deal direct damage anymore. Neither can Cunning
Sparkmage, for that matter. Birds of Paradise,
Overgrown Battlement, and Noble Hierarch can't
tap for mana-- that must feel like a Stone Rain
to them. If your opponent had creatures that
regenerate, they're vulnerable.
And even if your opponent doesn't have any
creatures like that, she's still a 3/4 flier for
only four mana.
It's always interesting to see a creature
ability that hasn't been done before. Well,
technically Linvala's text is a sort of callback
to Nullstone Gargoyle and Pithing Needle, but
she is to those cards what Moat is to Wrath of
God. Or perhaps, considering that she turns off
mana abilities, the scales she's carrying, and
the effect she has on your friend's "Every
Ravnica Block Guildmage.dec," what Balance is to
Wrath of God.
Today's card of the day is Linvala, Keeper of
Silence which is a four mana 3/4 Flying that
shuts down any activated abilities of your
opponent's creatures. This is an incredible
useful ability on an already well-priced
creature that will likely be played in many
decks or at least sidedecks for a long time to
come.
For Limited these is almost nothing better to
have in a format dominated by Level Up and
Eldrazi Spawn tokens and this should be the
first pick or hate drafted immediately in
Booster. For Sealed build a deck for this and
you'll likely do well even if the rest of your
White cards are a little weak.
