Disaster Radius

Disaster Radius takes the age-old red concept of "blow up everything" and takes it to a very extreme, very interesting place. It's designed to work best (most spectacularly) with the Eldrazi, but even regular creatures can make the effect live up to the name. By the time you can afford the mana cost, you should have something expensive to show anyway.

Today's card of the day is Disaster Radius which is a seven mana mass removal when combined with a large enough creature.  The high cost is a drawback, but also requiring a big enough creature in hand to destroy your opponent's battlefield makes this a poor topdeck and hand management issue in the later stages of the game.  I don't expect this to see much play in any constructed format as it is incredibly situational.

With Limited the picture is dramatically better as the slower format and abundance of large creatures makes this quite playable and one of the few weapons capable of destroying not just one Eldrazi, but several.  A solid first choice in Booster that should be followed up by drafting some Eldrazi and support to improve the speed.  In Sealed the double Red in the cost isn't an issue coming from a total of seven and it is quite playable with the non-rare Eldrazi options.

An additional note for Multiplayer since Disaster Radius impact all opponents and the format can last a bit longer which makes it a bit better if the right combination can be reached.  Just don't expect a regular group to fall for the same trick very often without quite a bit of acceleration to prevent disruption.
