Never mind the fact that getting two of these on
the board, plus some mana Myr, can give you an
infinite mana combo. Actually, don't never mind
that. That's one of the best things about Myr
Galvanizer! Decks of all nongreen colors have
loved the little Myr since the original Mirrodin
block, at they're a cheap, colorless way to ramp
your mana and fix your colors. And now Palladium
Myr makes things even saucier! I smell a combo
deck!
Even if you don't want a combo and just want to
beat down with some Myr, it couldn't hurt to
throw an X spell into the deck. Meanwhile, the
Galvanizer's +1/+1 is a commendable bonus to the
Myr hive.It makes Myr Battlesphere that much
more nuts, it makes Origin Spellbomb and
Myrsmith impressive sources of creatures, and it
lets Darksteel Myr actually deal combat
damage. The Galvanizer is a must if you want
your opponent to scream bloddy Myr-der! (I
couldn't resist).
It's interesting to me that the Myr got a "lord"
in this block - perhaps some of the next set's
Myr will be built for aggression? I suspect,
though, that the part which will get the most
attention is his second ability. It calls back
to excellent cards like Seeker of Skybreak and
downright frightening ones like Great Whale, and
players are always on the lookout for ways to go
infinite. And both abilities work on Chameleon
Colossus. What's not to like?
Today's card of the day is Myr Galvanizer which
is a three mana 2/2 that gives other myr
creatures you control +1/+1 which would would be
strong enough to play by itself, but the second
effect is what gets the most attention.
For one and tapping it you can untap each other
myr you control, so with another copy and a card
like Palladium Myr or two other mana producing
myrs you can generate infinite mana with
relative ease.
Given that both of those cards are quite decent
by themselves in an artifact deck even without
the combo this is an excellent card that will
see quite a bit of play.
For Limited this is a good card that is weakened
a bit like many lords by the nature of the
format as you can only control the number of myr
you have to a certain degree. With twelve
myr in the set and only two of them rare, and
two others uncommon, the odds of having a few
are
still high enough to warrant drafting this
fairly early. In Booster
this can be picked as one of the first choices
and later myr considered slightly higher value
and in sealed if a few myr are in the pool this
is worth including as well.
