I waited almost twenty years for a card with a
quote from the Odyssey in its flavor text. They
finally gave me one: the first version of
Alluring Siren, in M10. Then, when she came back
in M12, her flavor text was different. Thanks,
guys in Renton. Still, it's hard to complain
about what she does in gameplay. Recreating some
of the classic combos involving Royal Assassin
is great fun, and with a little effort (and the
odd Kessig Recluse) you can set up severely
disadvantageous combat for your opponent,
regardless of what the creature being targeted
is. Try her with Silent Arbiter.
Today's card of the day is Alluring Siren which
is a two mana Blue 1/1
that taps to have target creature an opponent
controls attack you that
turn if able. This may not be effective
against mana effects or
anything else an opponent can tap without a
specific trigger, but
forcing lords or other support cards into an
unfavorable attack is quite
useful in the right situation. While not a
great card the right
metagame gives this value in the sidedeck at
least and it can
effectively support control builds by being
reuseable when facing swarm
decks.
For Limited this is quite strong in the creature
driven format and can
break stalemates or manipulate the field enough
to gain noticeable
advantages. Alongside even a 1/2 creature
this can be a huge headache
for an opponent that is well worth a second or
third pick in Booster.
Any Sealed splashing Blue should take advantage
of this often overlooked
card as it will change the game while it is in
play.
Welcome to the
Pojo.com card of the day section. Today we are
looking at Alluring Siren from M12. Alluring
Siren is an uncommon blue creature siren that
costs one generic and one blue mana for a 1/1.
Alluring Siren has the ability to tap: target
creature an opponent controls attacks you this
turn if able.
I always loved the Alluring Siren. I used to use it an
my old Leviathan deck, forcing helpless
creatures come and get eaten by a Sea Serpent or
some form of Leviathan. I also used to use it
well in a black and blue deck I had built,
combining it to force the opponent’s biggest
creature to attack, and then destroy it with
Royal Assassin. And then there is of course,
there is using it with Gidoen’s Avenger. Force
the creature to attack, and then it gives
Gideon’s Avenger a pump, and then should be able
to kill something.
I love the Alluring Siren, and I enjoy finding
new and interesting ways of exploiting the
forced attack.
