Master's Call

This is more the card I expect to see when someone mentions the word "token deck" - creatures that make tokens feel like a very different thing to me. Unfortunately, given that every card like this makes different colors and creature types, I couldn't recommend a deck that only has them to anyone who doesn't own a lot of the tokens you get as a bonus in boosters. Master's Call is certainly one of the best of this type of card in its original context, given that it not only helps against sweepers and counterspells but also activates metalcraft, goes in Myr tribal decks, and gives you a target for Shape Anew. In a more general sense, there are few really distinguishing things about it compared to other cards, but it's still more than good enough for almost any kind of casual play.

Welcome back readers todays card of the day is one that has just gotten really bad with the printing of Midnight Haunting and especially cards like Lingering Souls making the helpful boost to metalcraft yesterday’s news. In standard I don’t foresee a deck wanting to play with this card not even something like Tempered Steel has been too interested in this lately making this card pretty outclassed not necessarily bad but just doesn’t fit in right now. In extended and modern this suffers the same fate and is outclassed by a large variety of cards and its applications are quite narrow. In legacy and vintage this card isn’t going to be seeing much play. In casual and multiplayer a myr deck could be interesting and quite fun and has a decent amount of support and it allows metalcraft decks to reach that point faster making it sort of an underwhelming but playable card. In limited it’s a combat trick sort of and has relevance with myr and metalcraft making it a good choice. Overall a card outclassed by other token makers but a solid card.

Today's card of the day is Master's Call which is a three mana White instant that puts two 1/1 myr artifact tokens into play.  This is not likely to see much play in Constructed decks, but it is still a decent card for a White/artifact build working with tokens or Metalcraft.  Two tokens from one card is a small advantage and there is quite a bit of available support which makes this at least viable in the right build.

For Limited this really shines as an enabler of Metalcraft and in general as a source of two creatures for blocking or a small swarm.
Being an instant is huge in the format as it can drastically change the battlefield when played on the opponent's turn.  As a common multiples are possible and the single White in the casting cost allows it to easily be played in multicolor decks.  A strong early pick in Booster after removal and should always be played in Sealed if there are White mana sources in your deck.

Welcome to the Pojo.com card of the day section. Today we are closing out our week looking at Master’s Call from Mirrodin Besieged. Master’s Call is a common white instant that costs two generic and one white mana. Master’s Call puts two 1/1 colorless Myr artifact creature tokens onto the battlefield.

Anytime you can nab blockers in an instant, it is a win. Especially when in white, since it works so nicely with so many great cards from other colors, and its own! I mean really, splash in some green, Parallel Lives, now you have four tokens for three mana, and of course, use the Intangible Virtue, and now you gain four 2/2 Vigilant creatures. And then of course, you combine it with Sigil Captain, then the 1/1’s become 4/4’s.

Anytime that you can gain these kinds of advantages, it is a good thing.
