A legend who looks like she belongs guarding the
doors of Valhalla and shrugs off any year's
instant-speed removal spells was always going to
be a hit. The deck that arguably benefits
most from Sigarda's abilities is green-white
totem armor auras, where she makes creatures
nearly invincible, but really any deck with
access to green and white can play her and will
never feel bad about doing so. I also think it's
rather funny that some people panicked when they
saw her - it was a lot of the same people who
usually tell you "Eh, I'll just cast Day of
Judgment" whenever you tell them about a cool
new creature. They also don't complain when
ridiculous spells get released; turnabout, as
it's said, is fair play.
Today's card of the day is Sigarda, Host of
Herons which is a five mana legendary
Green/White with Flying, Hexproof, and prevents
spells and abilities of your opponents from
causing you to sacrifice permanents. A
five mana 5/5 with evasion and Hexproof is
excellent even if the mana cost is a bit
specific with two White and one Green. The
final effect also stops several common methods
for getting around Hexproof which can make
Sigarda very difficult to deal with for many
decks and is a general hindrance to Black's
sacrifice themes. Overall this is a
powerful card in a White/Green build that can
manage the cost and will definitely see play in
this block and the next.
For Limited this is a very effective bomb that
will not be easily handled and should often win
games in which it appears. 5/5 with Flying
is a huge threat that is only somewhat mitigated
by the double White in the casting cost making
the mana needed to cast her fairly specific.
An easy first pick in Booster even though it
locks you into two colors and should be played
in Sealed if your White pool is moderately
strong. The Green should be easy enough to
splash and just having this is a good start
towards a winning design.
Welcome to the
card of the day section here at Pojo.com! Today
we are looking at Sigarda, Host of Herons from
Avacyn Restored. Sigarda is a mythic rare
legendary creature angel that costs two generic
one green and two white mana and is a 5/5.
Sigarda has flying and is Hexproof and says that
Spells and abilities your opponents control
can’t cause you to sacrifice permanents.
All of the angelic hosts are amazing. And each of
them in their own right. Sigarda is insane. She
is big, relatively cheap, and has a bunch of
great protection abilities! With the return to
Ravnica coming soon, she certainly fits right
into the Selesnya guild based decks. And I
wonder how will her abilities be an influence in
the coming sets? Will there be more cards that
create sacrifice? Either way, she is sure to be
a good choice for green/white Commander decks,
and certainly be a card heavily utilized for any
deck using those colors.
