This card is, in a way, the more on-theme
equivalent of Watchwolf. I'm a little sad not to
see the Wolf himself back, to be honest,
especially since this version is susceptible to
Negate and Izzet Charm (thanks a lot, Wizards).
At the same time, it's hard to be too critical
of getting a 3/3 creature for two mana. And
there are times when you'll be glad to have this
card around - populate is genuinely tantalizing,
and Chandra the Firebrand is occasionally a
thing too.
Today's card of the day is Call of the Conclave
which is a two mana Green and White that puts a
3/3 Green centaur token into play. This is
a nice homage to Watchwolf for a token deck,
though the token isn't both colors which may
impact the support used in the final build.
Overall a clear addition to a Populate or token
theme that will see frequent play.
In Limited a two mana 3/3 is a very aggressive
card and there is no reason not to play it in a
Selesnya build in Sealed, but is probably not
worth splashing into another deck as it is
otherwise vanilla and the lack of Populate
removes appeal. A good second or later
pick in Booster after a Green/White first choice
that can be supported with a variety of other
cards in the set.
Welcome to the Pojo.com card of the day section. Today we
are looking at the Call of the Conclave from
Return to Ravnica. Call of the Conclave is an
uncommon green and white sorcery that costs one
green and one white mana. Call of the Conclave
puts a 3/3 Green Centaur creature token onto the
battlefield.
I love the Call of the Conclave. Mainly because it is like
getting a Watchwolf from old Ravnica. But
better, since you can Populate the token, not
the Watchwolf. And building an army of 3/3's,
starting turn two, means that it can get out of
hand fast, and that is what the Selesnyan's are
all about.
The only downside is that I really wish this card could have
been an instant. I think that that would have
likely qualified it for rare status, but think
that it would have been worth it.
