What can I say about a card as simple as this?
It's a quick, aggressive creature in colors that
like quick, aggressive strategies. If you like
aggro, this is aggro. Run it, play it, swing
with it, enjoy it.
I enjoy some dark humor in my flavor text as
much as the next man. The character quoted,
though, clearly has little knowledge of
philosophy or culture, as most people have
agreed that if the soul has a physical location,
it's in either the head or the heart. Then
again, a lot of Rakdos' followers can't read, so
what do you expect? What they are good at,
though, is being aggressive, and this particular
character is a solid, if unspectacular,
attacker. There're times I wish the rules could
account for things like the number of blades he
has attached to his arms, but he'll often do a
surprising amount of damage to an opponent -
especially since a lot of people feel stupid
using a card like Path to Exile on "just" a 2/1
creature.
Welcome back readers todays card of the day is
Rakdos Shred Freak an uninteresting but powerful
creature card. A highly aggressive two drop
Rakdos Shred Freak makes Rakdos colored decks
and aggressive red decks pack a wallop in
conjunction with other powerful creatures and
burn spells. In modern I see this card being
outclassed by available options and the same
concept applies in legacy there is stiff
competition and limited deck space for
aggressive decks. In casual it’s a fine early
drop and certainly, in multiplayer aggressive
but it falls off easily and dedicated aggressive
decks may not be the best in multiplayer due to
finite resources. In limited it’s a solid
aggressive creature. Overall a powerful early
drop that may see some constructed play but may
not hold its weight elsewhere.
Today's card of the day is Rakdos Shred Freak
which is a two Black or Red mana 2/1 with Haste.
This isn't a particularly bad card, but it
doesn't stand out either with the low defense
and lack of other benefits after it is first
played. The flexibility of Black or Red
mana being used and the aggression of coming in
with Haste is nice, though other options exist
in both colors that can do a bit more at the two
mana slot. Overall a dedicated Rakdos or
human build may include this and otherwise it
isn't likely to be seen around the competitive
scene.
For Limited this is a bit better as two power
for two with Haste that can be cast with three
different kinds of mana combinations on turn two
is both easy to work with and likely to deal
early damage. An automatic inclusion in Rakdos
sealed builds, possibly Golgari or Izzet as well
if many other small creatures aren't available.
A booster pool skewing either color can benefit
as well and it may be worth drafting as an in
color addition, but it is best used for Rakdos
and an almost guaranteed turn two attack.
Welcome to the
card of the day section here at Pojo.com! Today
we are looking at the Rakdos Shred-Freak from
return to Ravnica. Rakdos Shred-Freak is a
common creature human berserker that costs two
hybrid black/red mana for a 2/1. Rakdos
Shred-Freak has haste.
Not a whole lot to say about the Rakdos Shred-Freak. He
is what he is as they say. For your two mana, in
any combination of red or black, you get a 2/1
with haste. It may not seem that strong, but it
suites what the Rakdos Guild is all about, and
it can be a big help. We all know that haste is
an ability associated with red, but when we can
grant an ability like that outside of it’s
colors, especially in a deck that doesn’t run
them, it can make an impact. Granting haste in a
mono-black deck is a fun idea, because your
opponent will not see it coming.
Other than that, nothing super special about the card.
