Today's card of the day is Dreg Mangler which
is a three mana Black/Green 3/3 with Haste and a
Scavenge cost of five. The Haste provides
an aggressively costed creature that has value
in a Black/Green build while the Scavenge allows
a bit of late game value during excess mana
turns. It is a decent card that may see
some play if Golgari takes root in the metagame
and overall should work well as the three mana
drop in those builds.
In Limited a three mana 3/3 with Haste is a
solid threat that is only enhanced by the middle
to late game boost of Scavenge. One Green
and one Black in the three mana cost is easily
managed with any draw that doesn't leave out a
primary deck color and makes for an automatic
inclusion for Golgari sealed. If the
splash is heavy enough this can be added to
Rakdos or Selesnya and fits in rather well with
the Haste and Unleash mechanics of the former.
In Booster this is a good second or third pick
after a Black, Green, or Black/Green rare and
with the single color requirements it can be
kept even if the later picks spread into a
different color.

Welcome to the card of the day section of
Pojo.com. We are looking at Dreg Mangler from
Return to Ravnica today. Dreg Mangler is an
uncommon black and green creature plant zombie
that costs one generic, one black, and one green
mana for a 3/3. Dreg Mangler has haste and
Scavenge for three generic, one black, and one
green mana.
Anytime you can get a creature that is a
three drop and has haste, there is usually some
sort of drawback. Not the case with the Dreg
Mangler. Dreg Mangler is probably one of the
better uncommons that came out of Return to
Ravnica. A three drop haste will likely have a
low toughness, die at the end of turn, or some
form of other drawback. Dreg Mangler is a solid
card in that it is worth the cost. A three drop
haste, no drawback, in fact, a benefit. The
benefit that the Dreg Mangler brings of course
would be it’s Scavenge ability. Sure, five mixed
mana for the Scavenge cost is a little on the
high side of the scale, but five mana is not
that bad at all. It buys you a couple turns
where with any luck, you’ve exchanged a couple
creatures with your opponent, and now have a
solid creature worthy of getting some pumps.
