A successful Extort deck should have plenty of
relatively cheap spells, so that in the later
game you'll have enough extra mana to add
several Extort payments onto each spell. Tithe
Drinker satisfies that requirement, and is a
pretty efficient attacker in the early-to-mid
game. Later in the game, she gets outclassed
pretty quick, but she's still relevant as a
cheap spell to cast and add Extortions to, and
as an extra permanent with Extort to keep on the
field. Lifelink is nice, since Extorters are
usually about the late game and appreciate the
extra padding to get them there, but without
evasion, Tithe Drinker eventually just becomes a
nuisance of a blocker.
Today's card of the day is Tithe Drinker which
is a two mana Black and White 2/1 with Lifelink
and Extort. This is a very solid card for
an Extort theme as a low cost source of the
effect that also has additional life gaining
options through combat. The one toughness
is a drawback, but otherwise this is a solid
card that will be popular in many Black/White
decks.
In Limited the value of Extort should never be
underestimated and a two power creature with
Lifelink for two mana is quite solid. Combined
and you have one of the best early game options
that maintains value with Extort throughout the
game. As a common multiple copies are
possible and well worth including in Sealed when
running Orzhov. In Booster this can be a
second pick with weak uncommons and should be a
high priority in following up any Orzhov rare.
