Today's card of the day is Siren of the Fanged
Coast which is a five mana Blue 1/1 with Flying
and Tribute 3 with the choice of gaining control
of target creature. This is quite weak in most
formats as it will generally be a 4/4 Flying for
five which is unremarkable, but is a five mana
1/1 if your opponent has nothing that can be
controlled. Just about any other evasive threat
is better than using this and overall it should
not see play in any one on one setting.
In Limited this is a serious threat as a 4/4
with evasion or as a permanent Control Magic
with a 1/1 included. Even just taking a weak
creature gives you the value from the five mana
and any moderately Blue deck in Sealed should
include it when available. In Booster it is a
solid enough early pick that has no major
drawback and can make a notable impact whenever
it hits play.
For Multiplayer the drawbacks of other
Constructed formats can be overcome by making a
temporary alliance with the opponent of your
choice to not pay tribute then gain control of a
third player's creature.
