Not an easy effect's worth to gauge,
as it seems to have lost clout with age.
Not since Tenth with Head Games
has a card done the same
by today's standards this is quite strange.
But how many a game have you lost
when you failed to draw lands for the cost
of the spells in your hand?
Most decks just can't stand
If they can't play the cards they've been
tossed.
When the Jester's Mask does its thing,
that's the very same fate it will bring.
Without spells to throw at you
Your opponent's a statue
Maybe that's why this effect's been dwindling?
As the companion to Jester's Cap, this card was
also one of the most famous cards from Ice Age
in its day. You'd expect, then, that there was
some sort of jester that played an important
role in Ice Age's story, but I don't remember
there being one. I'll have to read the books
again to be sure, but that's too bad, really.
While the Mask is perhaps not as generally
useful as the Cap, it's certainly equally
annoying if you can resolve it, much less
repeatedly (Argivian Archaeologist was the go-to
card in 1995, but there are additional options
nowadays). Ever been given a hand of all lands
when you were just getting ready to go to a
powerful end-game? Or a hand of five cards that
cost four or higher when you only had three
lands? Feels pretty bad.
Welcome back readers todays card of the day is
a powerful artifact that allows you to rearrange
the cards in your opponents hand. Forcing them
to trade their hand full of threats for a hand
full of land drops or useless spells is quite
powerful. In competitive formats this card
requires six mana to go off the turn you played
it making it quite slow for anything
competitive. In casual and multiplayer this card
is quite powerful as it’s easy to tutor for and
can be recurred to hit multiple opponents, it’s
quite powerful and can gave you an edge. It’s a
powerful artifact that is somewhat slow and has
no immediate impact on the board which is one
downside. In limited it seems powerful and can
devastate opponent’s plans. Overall a somewhat
powerful card for casual and limited
environment’s.
Today's card of the day is Jester's Mask which
is a five mana artifact that comes into play
tapped and for one and tapping is sacrificed to
take an opponent's hand and library then choose
cards from them equal to the hand to become
their new hand. The effect is impressive
if the opponent has a decent number of cards,
though without an untap effect they have time to
empty their hand. Bounce to hand effects
work well alongside this and can maximize the
benefit by altering the battlefield in addition
to slowing tempo. Supported and played early
this can dramatically impact an opponent's game
and give you full knowledge of their deck,
though it does take noticeable effort to achieve
that result.
In Limited this is unlikely to be used while an
opponent has much in hand they can cast, so the
value is a bit more questionable. Fortunate
timing or some effects may help, but mainly this
will grant deck knowledge and possibly impact a
card or two. Other cards are more likely
to have an effect on a game and even with this
being colorless it doesn't merit an early
Booster draft pick or a slot in most builds in
Sealed.
