Much like yesterday's card of the day, Mardu
Shadowspear offers a repeatable effect that can
mess up your opponent's timing and sometimes
requires specific types of answers. The costs
involved are cheaper and thus the effects are
commensurately smaller than Mardu Strike Leader,
but that also provides the option of a much
earlier play and something that looks almost
like a modal creature. That sort of thing could
end up having a role to play in various formats,
especially if people continue building around
Chief of the Edge and Chief of the Scale as much
as they have been so far.
Welcome back readers today's card of the day is
Mardu Shadowspear an aggressive one drop.
Similar to the Zendikar vampire Pulse Tracker
this creature makes each opponent lose 1 life
when it attacks. In addition this creature has
Dash as a two drop you can grant it haste and
have it safetly return to your hand. In standard
I see this card playing some role in aggressive
black decks, its a human which can be relevant
and its a warrior which is becoming more and
more relevant, its aggressive and left unchecked
can force your opponents to lose a ton of life.
In other competitive formats this card is not
quite as good so I don't foresee it seeing any
play whatsoever. In casual and multiplayer this
is great for warrior tribal and in multiplayer
it scales well allowing you to hit an open
player while keeping the damage up on everybody
making it quite a powerful card. In limited its
a solid aggressive body for decks wanting to
utilize raid or warriors. Overall a powerful
aggressive creature which will play some roles
in competative formats and around kitchen
tables.
Today's card of the day is Mardu Shadowspear
which is a one mana Black
1/1 with Dash for two and causes each each
opponent to lose one life whenever it attacks.
This is a great early game play in Multiplayer
and is quite solid one on one as well. The
Dash option is less useful as this can
potentially be cast turn one and attack at the
same time as it would if cast with Dash on the
second turn. Overall this will see play in
aggressive Black builds and likely be popular in
Commander and Multiplayer builds.
In Limited this is a very reasonable second or
third pick in Booster as nearly any 1/1 for one
is worthwhile in the format and this causes an
extra loss of life each attack. Any Black
deck in Sealed should include this and if drawn
later in the game using Dash can potentially
keep it from being removed, if it can attack
unopposed.
