I really wish they hadn't scaled back the novels
and such around the time New Phyrexia came out.
Many of my reasons you already know; and
further, when I look at this card I see
something that really, really looks like it
could have been some kind of major storyline
moment. There is a literal cage around
Mirrodin's green sun, and it has the Mirran
watermark in its text box - did they build it
themselves? Did a planeswalker do it to try and
preserve something of a dying world? Is that a
stylistic resemblance to Esper filigree that I
see - and if so, was Tezzeret following Bolas'
orders, or breaking them?
In gameplay, this card is actually just about as
special as you'd expect a caged sun to be. It's
a Glorious Anthem for colors that don't usually
get that, and a Mana Flare for colors that don't
usually get that (which is actually most of
them, come to think of it). Don't be too
dismayed by its mana cost - yes, it's high, but
sometimes you get what you pay for, and
especially in multiplayer or Commander settings,
its effects can be real difference makers.
