Long-time players will note that Zada does
indeed share a color with Ink-Treader Nephilim -
and probably find it a little awkward that the
other three turn out to be superfluous. But
aside from that, it makes it much easier to
build around her without having to spend a lot
of time just setting up to cast her. Even if all
you end up doing is turning Titan's Strength
into Overrun, you're getting a lot for very
little cost. And each set you add to the mix,
whether from new releases or in older card
pools, multiplies the number of interactions by
numbers I can't even count.
Today's card of the day is Zada, Hedron Grinder
which is a four mana Red
3/3 Legendary that copies your instant or
sorcery spells that target only it for each
other creature you control. This is an
extremely effective card used with both tokens
plus power increase, evasion, or direct damage
dealing like Goblin Grenade. There is a
great deal of potential for Zada to win games
with many different cards and it will definitely
be popular in Commander, Casual, Multiplayer,
and possibly some Constructed formats as the
basis of a new variation on the Heroic concept.
In Limited there are fewer options to trigger
the effect, but as a four mana 3/3 this isn't
unplayable as a vanilla creature and the threat
with any other creatures in play might be too
much for an opponent to ignore. The
psychological aspect adds value, making it a top
target for removal and causing concern whenever
you topdeck. For those reasons this makes a
reasonable if somewhat underpowered first pick
in Booster and an easy inclusion when running or
splashing Red into a Sealed deck.
