Fun fact: the "twin token" ability, popularized
recently by Kalonian Twingrove, originated on
Stangg all the way back in Legends. It has not
been revisited as often as some abilities, but
it can still make for a difficult time for any
opponent. In this card's case, it makes it more
than worth a look in any deck that has selected
Eldrazi as an element. A 10/10 for ten mana is
efficient in a technical sense but not in an
abilities sense - but two 10/10s for the price
of one is a steal. It's a little like Apocalypse
Hydra from Conflux, except with less risk as
it's spread over two creatures. I like the sound
of all of that.
Today's card of the day is Desolation Twin
which is a ten mana 10/10 that when cast puts a
10/10 token into play. The large power and
toughness presence this puts into play for ten
mana is a clear bargain, but needing to be cast
and the lack of other effects diminish the
potential somewhat. By itself with some
form of mana acceleration, all colorless
production options for example, this can at
least be a serious threat to an opponent not
using countermagic as it will usually be at
least a two for one in your benefit. A
very strong addition to a high mana build in
colorless or Green and should see at least some
play in Casual or Commander decks.
In Limited this can win the game in one attack
on a clear field or at least pressure an
opponent heavily in an environment with minimal
removal. A clear first pick in Booster and
outside of low curve aggression it will often be
the top end choice for any Sealed deck.
Hmph. Remember how everybody was going crazy
over Armada wurm a few years ago? Well, meet his
not quite as good, no populate in standard,
junky, no-trample cousin. it's a 10 drop that
you can't flicker for more tokens. Skip.
