I really like this card for being a new and
interesting take on green's method of using its
creatures to deal with other creatures. A 1/3
for one mana is not a bad early blocker by any
means, and even if you lose it, you will
probably have turned something into something
significantly less threatening. Conversely, that
ability means that it can almost attack past
dragons and angels with impunity - it's the most
embarrassing way possible to lose a Lightning
Angel. It's going to be strange seeing people
fighting over the card with Ultimate Price
versus Ranger's Guile, but it's going to happen
somewhere somehow.
I think Ooze would be more appropriate for a
creature called "Permeating Mass", but whatever.
The idea is that it's an irritating wall and a
threat your opponent doesn't want to block with
their good creature, thanks to that nasty
ability (which can, in fact, result in a board
clogged with Masses). A 1/3 for 1 mana is a
surprisingly effective early body, and it has
some relevance late-game thanks to its ability.
I feel, though, Permeating Mass is ultimately a
bit too underwhelming to get there. Its
abilities are all pretty passive in a color what
wants to floor the gas, and relying on combat
damage to work its magic removes some of the fun
tricks you could get with Fight effects (Fight,
appropriately, is an excellent way to off this
card).
