Zedruu is an interesting card, because there is
basically almost no application for her in
traditional one-versus-one Magic. Generally, if
you have only one opponent and they control a
number of permanents you own, you're on the fast
track to defeat. But in Commander settings with
four or so players, there's inevitably going to
be a lot going on that doesn't directly involve
you, and lots more time for you to set up some
kind of situation with expendable tokens or
other things you don't mind giving away for a
long-term advantage. In general, I like when
cards are useful in as many situations or
formats as possible, but interesting designs
like this probably couldn't exist without the
dedicated Commander supplements.
I'm surprised we've never reviewed this. Niche
commander with a bit of danger attached. giving
your opponents control over pacifism-like
enchantments the obvious smart play with a card
like this. drawing is pretty important in EDH,
so it's a nice little pick for a color scheme
that allows for aggressive play.
