Avarax is another card that I always liked, but
never really got the press I thought it could
have. There are plenty of creatures that draw a
card as their comes-into-play trigger, and they
have often seen play just because of that.
Avarax goes one better for aggressive decks that
can afford its mana cost, guaranteeing you not
one but two powerful creatures. Compared to
other creatures of its cost that often see play
in constructed, it may not look spectacular, but
those are solid fundamentals which can take over
a setting like limited where resources are
usually even tighter. And in that case, I
simultaneously smile and shudder at the fact
that it's now a common and some Eternal
Masters decks will inevitably end up with five.
5 drop hasty 3/3 that provides you with another
5 drop hasty 3/3 when it ETBs. uh, while the
effect is certainly valuable, I wish that the
creature was something with a little more oomph.
but as it stands, it's something.
