There are way, way too few cards in Magic that
depict a clash of wills between opposing
wizards. Clash of Wills is arguably one of
those, but I actually like this better. It sort
of has a random element inherited from Mana
Clash, but where coin flips are really and truly
random (perhaps more so than anything else in
Magic), you actually can exert a degree of
control over what happens with this card. Maybe
your opponent has no hand because of Hypnotic
Specter, or maybe you have extra lands because
of Life from the Loam. Regardless, I really like
that this isn't just Lightning Bolt plus a block
mechanic and actually adds a different dimension
to the direct damage trope (even if the
competitive crowd blanches at "giving the
opponent control over [your] spells").
