For Thanksgiving, we're looking at a couple of
cards with themes relevant to the week (and in
this case, pretty scary artwork). This
particular vampire doesn't really make use of
the tribe's usual mechanical themes of
consumption, but it does like to get together
with friends and varied card types, which is
just as good for Thanksgiving. It lacks the pure
efficiency of Tombstalker or Necropolis Fiend,
and so is unlikely to show up in high-level
constructed settings, but does have pretty good
stats and a relevant creature type, especially
for limited settings (and delirium is
surprisingly easy to use in draft and sealed).
Dusk Feaster is pretty much meant as a Limited
toy, but it’s actually a pretty decent one. 7
mana for a 4/5 flying creature seems
inefficient…but 5 toughness puts it out of range
for a lot of kill spells, and it's sufficiently
evasive. Shadows Over Innistrad isn't especially
fast in Limited, either, so you have time to
cast a 7-mana creature.
Of course, the second half of this is Delirium,
which make this a 5-mana 4/5. The payoff isn’t
amazing on the surface…but it’s an evasive
creature that can close the game out. It’s not
the easiest task to assemble Delirium to cast
this on-curve, but it’s a solid bomb to build
to.
Also, this is not too bad in Vampire decks, for
those of you so inclined. Vampires never mind
having another decently powerful beater at the
top of their curve.
