Regardless of which pieces of Magic's flavor
text you do and don't like, there's no doubt
that a surprisingly large proportion of the
time, they throw phrases out there that just
work. Personally, I'd say that there are few job
titles that sound cooler than "Eternities
Crafter" - "Blimpwright" is up there, but
there's nothing like a name that makes a mundane
(for its setting) task seem suitably exciting
and even miraculous. As for her ability, we
already know what this kind of effect can do -
the card Future Sight and the entire cascade
ability have shown us that there's almost no way
to cost a free spell effect to make it useless.
While it's balanced somewhat by the fact that
you only get one at once and can't dig into your
library like with cascade, blue and green excel
at manipulating the top card of their library;
and as a result, I think Rashmi is going to be a
massive draw for Kaladesh, especially for
players of Commander.
The concept behind Rashmi is really powerful:
it’s a limited version of Cascade that can
trigger a free and powerful spell to go with the
first spell of your turn. Keep in mind that the
second spell will resolve first, so that can
make for some interesting decisions.
Her power is there, but the body is concerning.
A 2/3 for 4 mana is pretty awkwardly fragile,
especially when you lack ways to protect her.
She’s in burn range for most of the relevant
burn spells of Standard (much less Modern), and
that's to say nothing of kill spells. She's also
completely without impact during the turn she
hits, and an instant-speed kill spell will leave
you out four mana and a creature.
She needs to be protected, but she’s very
powerful, to say the least. Use her with
caution.
