I couldn't help but think of old-school cards
like Su-Chi and Bottle Gnomes when I saw
Filigree Familiar - historically, any artifact
creature with an effect of this type has been
worth looking at. By the time it dies, you'll
have gained two separate effects, the first
which perhaps negated the effect of a previous
activation of Chandra's +1 ability and the
second which likely helped you find something
else to defend and/or attack with. It's almost
like a miniature, cuter version of Solemn
Simulacrum, albeit slightly different types of
card advantage. In any event, anything with
triggered abilities is exploitable basically by
default - may I suggest Aetherworks Marvel?
The little filigree fox basically a tuned-down
Solemn Simulacrum; you get something when it
comes into play, and you get a card to replace
it when it dies. 2 life is less impactful than a
basic land, but Filigree Familiar only costs 3
mana to Solemn's 4 mana.
I think the power level might be a bit low for
Standard play, but this is a solid role-player
in Limited, able to act as a glue card in a
variety of decks. You can definitely do worse
than this fox.
