For those of you who've been paying attention to
other sets, this is the exact same game text as
Dissension's Voidslime, minus the green mana in
the cost. That makes it just a little more
flexible as to what decks it goes in, and might
give the effect a good chance to be used
commensurate with its intrinsic power. Standard
in Voidslime's time was a little faster, and had
a lot of two-mana counterspells that pushed
other things out of tournament consideration;
nowadays, the situation is quite different and a
three-mana instant is much more strongly
positioned.
Turns out that Voidslime can be shifted from U/G
to mono-blue, after all. Disallow is basically
an upgraded version of Cancel, splicing the
basic Counterspell and Stifle together. You only
get one of the two, but the ability to choose
affords this spell a lot of flexibility.
Standard lacked a decent counterspell; this
isn’t perfect, but it’s better than the slim
pickings they had previously. This will pull its
weight; I don’t think it’s good enough to escape
Standard, but it’s potentially good enough to
make a ripple.
