Rewind
I'm always rather suspicious of powerful
counterspells, but Rewind is actually pretty
fair as powerful counterspells go. Its power is
entirely dependent on what else is available to
blue decks: when your baseline is crazily
powerful cards like Mana Leak and Rune Snag, it
lets you counter three or more spells in one
turn, completely remove one of the usual
weaknesses of counterspell decks, and utterly
take over a game. In other places, having an
answer to the end-of-turn or upkeep distraction
and not having to give up your Negate or Essence
Scatter or Inspiration for later on is "merely"
good. It's not in Standard right now, and I
doubt anybody is going to get too infuriated
when it shows up in casual play, but I think the
most important rule of casual anything is the
Golden Rule.
Until next week, untap four lands, and don't be
a jerk.
