Liliana, Death's Majesty
Yesterday I alluded to red's gradually-widening
range of spell effects, but I actually think
black is in just as much risk of being typecast.
I know that discard is "unfun" and Vampiric
Tutor effects (as brought into modern Magic by
Liliana Vess herself) are "dangerous", but I
think it's more dangerous for any color to
become a one-note thing. That aside, if you have
your sights set on some kind of reanimation
strategy, it's hard to find a better enabler
than Liliana here. Her Zombify effect can be
used immediately on casting, and her
loyalty-increasing ability not only interacts
with it but also makes blockers. This is the
sort of interaction it's worth building a deck
around.
