Veteran Motorist

This is a curiously designed card. Red and white are not the colors traditionally associated with the scry keyword, but perhaps that association is a little looser now that it's evergreen. The combat boost for vehicles is welcome, but the Motorist also gives its controller access to a library-manipulation effect that we more associate with control decks and Augury Owl - and with higher power. That's a welcome addition not only to dedicated vehicle decks, but to red and white decks in general.

Veteran Motorist

The value of Veteran Motorist is that he synergizes nicely with the Vehicles deck, which is conveniently in his colors (it’s usually Mardu colors). He’s got ideal stats to crew up a lot of vehicles (3 power meets the crew cost on almost any vehicle), and he makes them scarier. The Scry 2 is a nice added bit of value, but he’s amazing without it.

As a 3/1 with no combat abilities, he's not good outside of the Vehicle deck, but he’s great there. And with Ixalan looking to bring more Vehicles, he’ll have more time to shine in Standard.
