BMoor's Magic The Gathering Deck Garage
Chapel of Ghouls
October 31, 2006

Children of the night.....awake.....awake......come to me.....

Welcome, welcome to my crypt-- er, garage.  Tonight I have in store for you a chilling tale of occult rituals and the walking dead.  Have a seat around the candlelight, and please, if you feel the need to scream, be my guest.  It whets my appetite.....
Hello it's me again,

I never thanked you for helping me with the r/g beast deck. Letting you know, I placed third in the tourney. So thanks for that. Anyways, I'll get to the nitty-gritty. Since it's going to be Halloween at the end of this month, I wanted to make a deck for such an occasion. Halloween is said to be a time when evil spirits are at their peak. I had a few choices when it came to this deck. Demons, horrors, skeletons, or good old fashioned zombies. Well, I decided on a Zombie deck. Zombies are pretty generic in the casual crowd. But what if zombies weren't the main theme?

Just imagine the scene. Three priests are gathered around the altar chanting a haunting melody that just echoes through the dead of night. After the chanting, a horned figure rises from the altar, and then drains the priests of their life essence and they fall to the floor. A green mist escapes one of the priest's mouth and engulfs the priest and the other two priests. The dead men rise in front of the horned figure and the creature raises it's arms in triumph. I wanted to have a little fun with that, and I thought it could give you a hint of what the deck is all about. Without further adieu, I present to you the deck.

Chapel of Ghouls

(27)creatures:
Scion of Darkness 1
Graveborn Muse 2
Dark Supplicant 4
Disciple of the Vault 4
Rotlung Reanimator 4
Cabal Archon 4
Withered Wretch 4
Shepherd of Rot 4

(10)non-creatures:
Night's Whisper 4
Oath of Ghouls 4
Cabal Therapy 2

(23)lands:
Swamp 21
Unholy Grotto 2

Here is a few explanations of a few cards.

Graveborn Muse-This helps me when I have depleted my hand.
Disciple of the Vault-People in my area run artifacts so I punish them for it.
Night's Whisper-It's a fill-in card until I can get 4 Skullclamps.
Oath of Ghouls-Since my creatures tend to die this helps regain my tempo.
Cabal Therapy-Helps against control and I can always sac. a cleric or zombie token.

The deck is pretty fun to play. My ideal combo is sac. three clerics, bring out Scion, and bring out three zombie tokens. I want to keep the deck monoblack. The only problems I have with are mass removal, graveyard hate cards, and big tramplers. I'm on a moderate budget, but I don't want to spend too much. If you helped, it would greatly be appreciated.

That's all from this me

Brian

May you not hear Thriller and see choreographed zombies when walking home.
Thank you, Brian, for such a.......compelling decklist to sink my teeth into.  I'm always ready and willing to take a deck like this and really dissect it......just don't mind the entrails on the floor.  I'm saving them for later.

Now then, let's see what we've got here.  A flock of the walking dead backed by powerful necromages, and a sinister dark avatar waiting to be unleashed?  Sounds like my kind of party.  How many zombies are there exactly?  I count fourteen, not counting tokens your Reanimator might dig up.  That's looking at an awful lot of life loss to a Graveborn Muse in the late game.  Your archon will help recoup it, one way or another, but I certainly hope you have in mind some way of disposing of your minions when they become too bothersome.  My personal recommendation for this is Fallen Ideal, but you may discover something better.  Perhaps the scrabbling of the Claws of Gix is more your speed, or a Spawning Pit to throw your dead into and see what bubbles up.  After all, the less time your disciples spend bound to their flesh prisons, the easier it is for them to keep their Oath!  It is so important to keep oaths..... promises..... Pacts, one might say.  And the ones being made here seem Grave indeed.  I think you know what I mean though.

I do apologize for such a short session tonight, but some decks come to me already fairly torn apart.  Who am I to mess with a beautiful thing?  And besides, I'm sure you all have other crypts to visit tonight, and I do believe I feel the moonlight beckoning me.  I then bid you good evening, and may you all live to see the sun rise......muhahahahaha.....
