BMoor's Magic The

Deck Garage
Last time, on BMoor's Deck Garage, Adrian from Peru wrote in and told me about his whole playgroup and how they'd all be E-mailing me soon. He wasn't kidding. My mission is now to fix the decks of all seven of these gentlemen before the Pojo site updates again Monday afternoon, so that all seven deck fixes go live at the same time and nobody in the group gets left high and dry while all his friends have Pojo articles of their very own. This is the second deck of the seven.
Thanks for the E-mail, Luis, and thanks for the great idea about Ophidian Eye and Niv-Mizzet! I hadn't noticed, but the Eye is functionally the same as Curiosity, the other half of the Niv-Mizzet combo that's had everyone going nuts since Guildpact. I never believed they'd actually make that combo Standard-legal, but apparently they did. Ours is not to question why, ours is to exploit it and unleash dragonfire all over everybody!
Now, then, our objective with this deck is clear-- get Niv-Mizzet and 'Phid Eye out as soon as possible, then draw a card and let the infinite damage roll out! Easy as it sounds, it is actually a rather complicated endeavor. First, you need to draw these cards. Then you need to cast them. Then you need to draw a card to trigger the Wizard of Izz. Fortunately, the first and third steps are basically the same, so what's called for here is a lot of card draw spells. Preferably, things that can draw you cards repeatedly, like Looter il-Kor, Thought Courier, or Archivist. Yes, they're all small creatures, but they do their job well. You also may want to explore Mystical Teachings, so you can search your library for the Ophidian Eye.
Next, you have to cast these spells. That requires mana, and it also pretty much requires your opponents not countering your spells. For mana, you've got Izzet Signet already (listed under lands for some reason), but you may want to add Prismatic Lens for backup. The Lens and the Signet do similar jobs, but this way you almost guarantee yourself six mana by turn five. Also, the Lens can provide black mana if you want to flashback Mystical Teachings, or if you decide to use Dimir Guildmage to draw cards and you want to make people discard too.
Next, comes getting the abilities to trigger each other ad infinitium. If you use a tutor to find Ophidian Eye, and then play Niv-Mizzet, most people are going to figure out what you're up to quick, especially since I know all your friends are going to read this. When that happens, if they're at all capable, they will kill Niv-Mizzet, destroy the "Phid Eye, counter it, bounce it, ANYTHING to keep the feedback loop from getting started. My advice is, since "Phid Eye has flash, is to get Niv out, draw a card, and then play 'Phid Eye in response to Niv's trigger. This gives them the smallest possible window in which to react. Having a few counterspells of your own might help.
Finally, since your win condition will probably be known to your friends beforehand, it couldn't hurt to have a backup plan. Demonfire makes a good Plan B. And if you're having trouble burning out a lot of small creatures, then your answer is Pyroclasm. Good luck!
