v0rac10u5’s Deck Garage
Elf Deck
January 23, 2008

Hello v0rac10u5,

This is an elf deck that I think can be even better. It's gone on a 27-4 winning streak. But I need help to beat those three decks... There's a burn happy deck, a sliver overrun, an ancient white-blue

pinker deck, and a new merfolk tap happy deck. Those four decks absolutely demolished this deck... :(

Creatures

4 Elvish Harbringers

1 Hunter of Eyeblights

1 Nath of the Gilt-Leaf

2 Nath's Elite

3 Essence Wardens

1 Immaculate Magistrate

1 Elvish Branchbender

4 Llanowar Elves

4 Jagged-Scar Archers

4 Imperious Perfects

3 Wren's Run Vanquishers

3 Lys Alana Huntsmaster

Enchantments

1 Prowess of the Fair

Instants and Sorceries

4 Elvish Promenade

2 Harmonize

2 Gilt-Leaf Ambush

1 Nameless Inversion

1 Spring Cleaning

Land

5 Swamps

12 Forests

1 Gilt-Leaf Palace

This is a casual deck I play that I want to get to tournament power. I

think the deck is pretty self-explanatory. Play bunches of elves, get

huge bonuses, and overrun your opponent in to the negative life range.

:) If you could help, that would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

George

Elves are a real powerhouse in Type Two right now. At my local store, they make up about a quarter of the field and I myself have won five of the last six tournaments with Elves.

The first item is your mana base. Gilt-Leaf Palace, Llanowar Wastes, and Treetop Village should be four-ofs. Also, run a single copy of Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Pendelhaven. Play at least twenty land.

The second item are your non-creature spells. All of these cards that make 1/1 creatures are no good. They just don’t accomplish enough for the mana it takes to play them. You should add more removal and finishing cards. Cards like Nameless Inversion and Eyeblight’s Ending are great removal cards for this deck. Cards like Garruk Wildspeaker and Overrun are excellent finishing cards. In most situations, they force your opponent to counterspell them or lose the game.

The third item to improve is your creature spells. Your list is pretty good, but there is still room for improvement. Boreal Druid is a great one drop. Thornweald archer is another great elf you are missing. When a twenty-five cent common kills a thirty-five dollar Tarmogoyf, I just get all warm and fuzzy inside. Cut all of the one-ofs and the Harbingers. The Harbingers are much too slow. You shouldn’t need the mana by then and a 1/2 for three puts no pressure on your opponent. Try to frontload your offensive creatures. What I mean by that is play your threats early, then back them up with removal and game-enders like Garruk. All of your creatures that cost four and five mana to play are just too slow. Ideally, this deck should win during its fifth turn two out of every three games.
