Deck Garage
Frog in a Blender
April 7, 2008
Hello, I started
playing Magic: The Gathering a couple years ago, right
when Guildpact was coming out. I've been to a Tenth
Edition Sealed Deck and a Lorwyn Booster Draft. My
friend really got me into it by giving me a deck for my
birthday. My playing style has evolved through the years
and this is my best deck so far.
Here's the Decklist:
-----Lands: 16-----
7 Mountain
7 Forest
1 Fungal Reaches
1 Treetop Village
-----Creatures: 13-----
1 Spark Elemental
1 Torpid Moloch
1 Sylvok Explorer
1 Wall of Fire
3 Pain Kami
1 Vulshok Sorcerer
1 Verdant Eidolon
1 Stone-Seeder Hierophant
1 Jiwari, the Earth Aflame
1 Arashi, the Sky Asunder
1 Streetbreaker Wurm
-----Other: 32-----
4 Fireball
3 Volcanic Hammer
1 Cone of Flame
1 Mana Geyser
4 Lava Axe
4 Seal of Fire
3 Utopia Sprawl
2 Overgrowth
1 Furnace of Rath
1 Upwelling
3 Dawn's Reflection
2 Shock
1 Incinerate
1 Seething Song
1 Barbed Lightning
The main strategy is to get out a
few
lands and pump them up with acceleration. Get out a few
good defenders, such as Torpid Moloch and Wall of Fire
while building up tons of mana for high-costed burn such
as Lava Axe. To kill hordes of creatures I normally
channel Jiwari or Arashi. Late in the game, I can play
Upwelling and Furnace of Rath to get lots of mana, and
the final blow is Fireball.
The problem with it is that it gets hosed against many
of my friend's decks, such as his Blue/Black Affinity
for Artifacts deck or his Blue Control deck. Also, I
want it to be able to win in any Extended tournaments I
might be able to find.
Terms of deck fix:
I have low-no budget. As of March 17th 2008, I have
about $14 American. Expensive suggestions are welcome,
but they won't help me much =)
Keep it Red/Green.
Keep it Extended Legal.
Thanks in advance.

The simplest way to win at this game or any other is to
kill your opponents before they can kill you. Building
up for massive Fireballs takes much too long. Focus on
beating your opponent with fast, efficient creatures and
finishing them off with tons of burn. The following deck
list is an update of an old Standard deck list from
2002. Most of the cards are cheap, with the exception of
Tarmogoyf. You could replace that slot with Wild Mongrel
or Werebear as your budget dictates, but the will never
reach its full potential without them. Ideally you want
to drop a Dryad or Goyf on turn two and follow it up
with two burn spells on turn three, allowing you then
swing in for three or more points of damage. Repeat with
two more burn spells the next turn and your opponent
should be face down. With twenty-four burn spells in the
deck, your opponent’s life total will often hit zero by
your fourth or fifth turn. Here’s a quick sample.
Turn One:
- Play Stomping Ground. Pay two life as it comes into
play.
- Play Kird Ape
Turn Two:
- Play Tree of Tales.
- Swing for two points with Kird Ape (20 – 2 = 18)
- Play Quiron Dryad.
Turn Three:
- Play Firebolt (18 – 2 = 16)
- Play Incinerate (16 – 3 = 13)
- Swing for five points with Kird Ape and Quiron Dryad
(now a 3/3) (13 – 5 = 8)
Turn Four:
- Play Shrapnel Blast (Sacrificing Tree of Tales) (8 – 5
= 3)
- Swing for six points with Kird Ape and Quiron Dryad
(now a 4/4) (3 – 6 = Dead)
