Brian Kibler Wins Pro Tour–Austin

Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour Crowns New Champion

Wizards of the Coast wrapped up its third Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour for 2009 this weekend in Austin, Texas, where 418 players competed for their spot in Magic Pro Tour history.  Brian Kibler from Carlsbad, California earned $40,000 and the glory of the Pro Tour championship title.

 

The top eight players to round out the Pro Tour–Austin tournament, included:

  1. Brian Kibler from Carlsbad, California
  2. Tsuyoshi Ikeda from Fukuoka-shi, Japan
  3. Naoki Shimizu from Tokyo, Japan
  4. Hunter Burton from Burleson, Texas
  5. Evangelos Papatsarouchas from Athens, Greece
  6. Yuuya Watanabe from Kanagawa-ken, Japan
  7. Martin Juza from Plzen, Czech Republic
  8. Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa from Porto Alegre, Brazil

 

Since 1996, Wizards of the Coast has given away more than $30 million in prize money, which includes both cash prizes and scholarship awards.

 

 

Pro Tour–Austin was a three-day tournament with a prize purse of $230,000. In addition to the main competition, Magic fans of all ages and skill levels enjoyed the extensive public event schedule and the opportunities to meet with members of the Magic art, R&D and novel teams.

 

The Magic Pro Tour is the highest form of competitive play for the collectible trading card game. It is a series of high payout tournaments held throughout the world and run by the Wizards of the Coast "Organized Play" division. Next stop on the professional circuit is the World Championships in Rome, Italy in mid-November.
