Tim Control - by Niels Duif (nielsduif@hotmail.com)
MAIN DECK (60 cards)
22 Island
1 Force of Will
1 Propaganda
1 Air Elemental
1 Suq'Ata Firewalker
3 Thornwind Faeries
4 Prodigal Sorcerer
3 Arcane Denial
4 Daze
4 Force Spike
4 Mana Leak
4 Echoing Truth
4 Unsummon
4 Counterspell
SIDEBOARD (15 cards)
3 Zuran Spellcaster
1 Dream Tides
4 Coast Watcher
3 Diplomatic Immunity
2 Blue Elemental Blast
2 Hydroblast
This deck was built with the additional restriction that
only one copy of each uncommon is allowed. If this
restriction is dropped, I would include 4 Force of Wills.
The early game strategy is to counter any spell you can,
except for 1-toughness creatures. The Unsummons and Echoing
Truth can send back early threats which you can counter
later. Depending on what your opponent is playing you should
either drop a turn 3 Tim or wait until you have enough mana
to cast a Tim (Prodigal Sorcerer and friends) and have a
counterspell for backup.
The sideboard is built to deal with the toughest matchups.
Sligh is annoying because it's fast and easily kills your
Tims. So against sligh you board in Diplomatic Immunity, Red
Elemental Blast and Hydroblast. The Dream Tides and Coast
Watchers help against green aggro decks with annoying
creatures like Blastoderm, Nimble Mongoose and Elvish
Lookout. The Zuran Spellcasters are meant to deal with decks
that only rely on hordes of creatures. Sideboarding them
gives you 3 more Tims and a better chance to kill 2- or
3-toughness creatures.
If you have any tips for this deck, please let me know.
