Subject: Akusu's Top Ten Fiend Deck Cards
To: tranorix@gmail.com
Why make a list like this for a deck that is not top tier?
Because I think it has the potential to be. With the new ban
list coming out, I am simply not worried because this is a
deck that can only profit from bannings and restrictions,
whereas other, slightly easier to construct and run decks
like Chaos cringe at the thought of the new ban lists.
10. Dark Jeroid
This card is not one of my favorite cards. It is a portable,
searchable beatstick, but top decking it against an open
field yields a 400 attacker or 1500 defence. Used properly,
it can easily lead to victory however, given its swapping
potentials.
9. Goblin King
This is getting a mention because I like it. Its the only
morphable, swappable anti-stall humongus beatstick I can
think of. The best combos involve Dimension Fusion and Dark
Ruler Ha Des, with a max of 4000 attk in a normal situation,
it can end games and make DF more worthwhile a payment.
8. Mefist the Infernal General
This is a card I was sceptical about at first but it combats
a major problem for Fiends: Resource Management. While
Airknight gives you trampling draws, he gives you trampling
discards. As a fiend he is more useful though. With a decent
defence of 1700 attack, its a worthwhile investment in a
scapegoat infested metagame.
7. Metamorphasis
This card is used alot in decks to bring out TER. Well in a
deck that doesnt need Magician of Faith, this is still
useful, if not more useful. It can morph goblin kings and
tokens into TER, and Byser Shock and Mefist into a multitude
of hard hitting monsters like Balter, who doubles as a fiend
in the graveyard!
6. Mystic Tomato
This monster has a deck in its own name, where a large
portion of the monsters it searches are fiends! There are
alot of ways to use it, and though it pales in comparison to
my personal favorite of the elemental searchers, Giant Rat,
it's versatility it often useful or gamebreaking.
5. Newdoria
Lets flash a little ingenuity into the mixture! This neat
little monster's effect is yours to use no matter how it got
triggered. It sits in defence mode just waiting to pounce on
an appropriate monster. When top decking, I would rather
have this to attack an open field than a beatstick. It can
(rarely) backfire when an opponent rams it and you have to
use it on your own monster, but more often you run it into a
monster to kill the most harmful one!
4. Creature Swap
This is quite the card for alot of decks, but what would
happen should scapegoats get banned or restricted? Fiends
would still soldier on, thanks to the ingenuity of Fiend
control decks! Newdoria, Mystic Tomato and Dark Jeroid all
present perfect opportunities to creature swap and take
advantage of their effects!
3. Dark Ruler Ha Des
When he comes out, all Fiends get a taste of his power. His
disadvantages are actually advantages in my eyes: His death
means an easy choice for Necrofear, and his return with my
number 2 card, Dimension Fusion, means that until his
destruction, you only fear Spells and Traps.
2. Dimension Fusion
This is the most gambreaking card a Fiend deck can run.
Along with its best friends, Dark Ruler Ha Des and Dark
Necrofear, it usually ends the game(one way or another).
While it can be a horrible top deck late game, it can make
the middle game the end.
1. Dark Necrofear
A little obvious, but its the best card for a fiend deck for
a multitude of reasons. It is never the point of a fiend
deck to bring her out, yet she helps out so much when she
does come out. She provides field presence better than any
other monster except one, BLS. Upon her appearance you can
be certain that your opponent will not be willing to
outright destroy her unless you cannot steal a monster from
them, either by placing monsters facedown or having none!
Well, there it is. I hope that this gives you some kind of
idea of what the best cards are to run in a fiend deck are
and the combos they're capable of. Honorable mentions go to
Sangan, Slate Warrior, Goblin Elite Attack Force and Night
Assailant for their combo potentials and usefulness.
