From: Paul Graham
Subject: Cloudpaul's Top 10 Spellcasters
Any of you who know me (most don't) know I love my
spellcasters. With the huge amount of Spellcasters out there
let's have a look-see at my personal top 10
10 - Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier
An overlooked 2nd option for Gravekeeper's spy, often nudged
out in favour of GK Guard. A serious pain in the
you-know-where, this card has trampled many a Spirit Reaper.
9 - Old Vindictive Magician
Searchable. If anything, it'll keep your opponent at bay for
a possible turn. Who wants to attack an apprentice only for
the opponent to bring an old vinny out? Also, he's an old
hermit. There's just not enough old hermit magician cards.
8 - Gravekeeper's Spy
Spear Soldier's big brother. Huge defence that would take a
tribute monster or GAF/GEAF/Giant Orc to destroy, this is
not likely to leave your field for
a while and with an effect like that, abusing book of moon
seems like a tasty little option.
7 - Injection Fairy Lily
Situationable. Often too pricey. Still, you gotta love it. A
fairy that somehow is classified as a spellcaster wielding a
huge Syringe. Early game she is devestating. Really
devestating. Late game she's a monster with 1500 def. That's
about it.
6 - Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
Oh, sure people don't wanna remove in fear of a return but
it's:-
a) Beatstick
b) potential resource-burner
c) Sexy. Who doesn't love a man in a skirt?
Pretty much necessary in most spellcaster decks, the Return
element is the sole reason this guy ain't top 3 in my list.
5 - Magical Marionette
Easily searchable, the man who tributes for this card is a
fool. If it weren't for Magician's Circle I doubt he'd even
be on the list. His effect has no limit and spellcaster
decks run a heavy amount of spells. It's a match made in
heaven.
4 - Breaker
In the top 5. Personal preference nudges it out of the top
3. It's beefy, it
has an effect that can be abused by apprentice (the
little-known effect of
apprentice) and is instant beatstick m/t removal. Not bad,
not bad.
3 - MoF
She's a necessity. The ability to bring back a spell is
powerful and she's yet another search option for apprentice.
With Creature Swap coming into power next format (i.e.
tomorrow) she can be used, swapped for a more powerful
monster, and destroyed.
2 - DMoC
Some say it's the 2nd best 2-tribute monster, behind SPoN. I
say differently. I believe this spell-returning, rfg, 2800
sexy beatstick is easily the best 2-trib monster to have
been released. Can your opponent use a Mobius' effect and
ram it into DMoC? No. It's major drawback is the fact it
removes itself, but thanks to RftDD that's no longer a huge
problem.
1 - Apprentice Magician
No surprises here, eh? Thanks to the new ruling and new
format this card just got a little bit closer to "broken". 2
Creature Swaps, effect that will
not be used by the opponent, a counter for those lovely
counter cards like Breaker and Magical Marionette and a
searcher for any level 2 spellcaster.
If this were stronger I think the excitement of this card
would kill me.
It's only because of the next format and new ruling that I'm
placing this card at the top. I'm sure something will come
along to knock it back down, like Ha Des perhaps?
Yours,
Paul Graham/Cloudpaul
