Mystic Wok by Xyverus
Hello, I'm a player who has been playing this game for three
and a half years and I figured I'd start up an article for
pojo about obscure cards and deck types. So let's get
straight to the point. Today's card(I'll switch off from
card to deck-type every week) is the oh so misunderstood
Mystic Wok. The basics of this card are it is a quickplay
spell card from Ancient Sanctuary that allows the player to
tribute their monster and select either attack or defense
and gain that much in lifepoints. Right there, that's very
fast lp gain but for a pretty major costs. But this card is
a card usually not used as a "summon monster and wok it"
card so therefore I have listed out the many many MANY ways
to use the Wok.
1.Basic necesity of lp tribute some monster so you have more
lp for cost effects i.e. premature, brain control, duo, etc.
2. Lava Golem! You will be weeping for joy when you have
been golemed and you topdeck the Wok and say " I don't think
I will pay 1000 lp, I think I'm gonna tribute that slab of
animated magma and gain 3000lp!"
3. Basic Destruction. Whenever your opponent just tries to
nobleman, ring, vortex, cyber jar, man-eater or night
assailant, removed by BLS, ect., you can just wok ur monster
and gain the lp or save damage or a monster from being
removed.
4. This is 3 continued but different so lets say you attack
and your opponent activates that game-winning cylinder...Wok
your monster! You just saved yourself by gaining back what
you lost. Also if your monster walks in to a mirror force
wok it so at least your geeting some lp.
5. Monster stealing. So basically if your opponent snatches
or brain controls your monster you can wok your monster b4
it goes over to them. And it works in reverse too if you
want to brain control or snatch their monster you can Wok it
before it goes back to them. Oh yeah don't forget enemy
controller!
6. M/T destruction. Lets say your opponent destroys your
spell or trap card that is attached to one of your monsters
that is keeping it on your field (such as premature, call,
the impending embodiment of apophis, etc) wok it!
7. Attack avoidance. This is when player A's monster attacks
player B's monster. Player B activates Mystic wok destroying
their own monster and Player A's monster attack doesn't do
anything.
8. Getting a tad abstract. a. Getting nice lp gain for that
goblin attack force or Giant orc. b. Not losing to
ceasefire(tribute away effect monster)c. destroying thousand
eyes(so you can attack and gain lp from that equipped
monster)d.soul exchange(tribute opponent's monster for lp
gain) e.Brain jacker and jowls of dark demise( very fun
combos here) f. Alot of lp gain( A BLS w/ mage power and
united we stand w/ 4 other monsters(goats anyone?) and 5 m/t
and then wok'd gains the player 9500 lp. Yay! g. I'm getting
tired, see how many more you can think of.
All in all Mysic Wok is a great card so I rate it 9.5/10 and
the minus .5 because magical scientist and elma are banned.
Next time I will show how interesting an ectoplasmer deck
can be
Till then Wok it like it's hot,
Xyverus Katran
