2 deck structures for Budget Wise and Strategy Wise Duelists
- Kaze
So far, we’ve seen
Zombies and Water, two recent structure decks that have
revolutionized the game both budget-wise and strategy wise.
As we prepare for the new Warrior Structure deck which is
made up of mostly Earth monsters, we should look back and
see what we’ve missed.
Dai tries to end the long duel with Suki by summoning his
Enraged Battle Ox and hopes to pierce enough damage for
game. “Attack your face-down!”
“Reveal Legendary Jujitsu master!”
“Jeez!” Dai lost lots of things from that one attack: his
field presence, Lifepoints, and basically his turn. “I use
Swords of Revealing Light. End turn.” He tries to buy time
until he can summon his Berserk Gorilla next turn.
“Draw, and summon Chiron the Mage! Discard Metamorphosis to
destroy Swords of Revealing Light! Now both my monsters
attack!”
“Drats! Not again. Stop beating me already!” Dai complained.
“Don’t blame me. Blame the author.”
*Kaze runs away*
Legendary Jujitsu Master is a powerful defensive monster
that has very well-balanced stats for a level-3 monster.
1300 atk means you have a good weapon against Stall game 1,
and 1800 defense can hold against D.D. Assailants, Enraged
Battle Ox, Tribe-Infecting Virus, and other monsters that
can’t cap the high defense. The Earth status is what turns
the average competitive duelist away, as well as the rock
sub-type even further. However, it doesn’t’ have to be a
light/dark to be good. The effect should warrant it’s play
enough, and it has the stats to back it up. It’s one of the
main bases for a Deck Crisis deck, having the ability to
Spin the attacking monster back to the top of the deck,
delaying their next draw phase AND losing their normal
summon most likely. That gives you a somewhat advantage.
On the other hand, another underrated monster in the TCG is
Chiron the Mage. Long shunned as a Breaker in Beastdown
only, people don’t seem to realize that Chiron the Mage is
most useful in decks like Goat Control-Morph. The average
OCG Goat Control contains around 15-16 monsters, due to the
logic that while Thousand-Eyes Restrict is on the field, you
don’t want a hand full of monsters as you wait. Chiron lets
you clear the field of Torrential Tribute, Sakuretsu Armors,
and Mirror Force for Thousand-Eyes Restrict to attack
through. Discarding a 3rd copy of Scapegoat or Metamorphosis
isn’t a big deal compared to Aggro where you might discard a
Smashing Ground. Goat Control lacks spell/trap destruction
and Chiron balances that. Plus, 1800 atk isn’t too shabby.
Personally, both are excellent Side-deck material and
possible main-deck material if you run Goat Control, Aggro,
or Chaos. Legendary Jujitsu Master is nice disruption
against Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys and Zombie decks in
general, while Chiron the Mage can destroy Deck Crisis and
stall like no other. Then again, I suck at explaining, so
I’ll do a sample standard Goat Control deck:
Monsters:
[2] Tsukuyomi
[1] Chaos Soldier
[1] Asura Priest
[1] Legendary Jujitsu Master
[2] Magician of Faith
[1] Airknight Parsath
[2] Chiron the Mage
[1] Tribe-Infecting Virus
[1] Sinister Serpent
[1] Breaker the Magical Warrior
[1] Stealth Bird
[1] Sangan
Spells:
[1] Mystical Space Typhoon
[1] Delinquent Duo
[2] Nobleman of Crossout
[3] Scapegoat
[1] Heavy Storm
[1] Pot of Greed
[2] Book of Moon
[1] Swords of Revealing Light
[1] Premature Burial
[1] Snatch Steal
[2] Metamorphosis
[1] Graceful Charity
[1] My Body as a Shield
Traps:
[1] Ring of Destruction
[1] Torrential Tribute
[1] Call of the Haunted
[1] Mirror Force
[3] Sakuretsu Armor
Pretty standard, at least by OCG I mean. Low monster count
for a Morph Goat Control, with a sub-high count in spells
and traps. 3 Sakuretsu Armors protect you from Tsukuyomi
trying to take a dip in your control, while My Body as a
Shield stops Torrential Tribute, Tribe-Infecting Virus, and
Lightning Vortex as the main threats once Thousand-Eyes is
on the field. 2 Metamorphosis may be low, but we’re going on
the “Strong base with major good back-up” plan. Book of
Moons are practical staples for fighting opposing
Thousand-Eyes.
Asura Priest is simply to wipe out the resources of the
opponent’s Goats. Legendary Jujitsu Master serves as the
main monster defense. 2 Chiron the Mages slowly drains the
opponent’s resources with your plentiful spare spells. 3
Spirits may be much, but it works and play-tested well.
Stealth Bird is a personal favorite of mine, as 1700 defense
stops a LOT more than you think, and is a win-condition all
own it’s own without attacking. Who doesn’t love that? A win
condition AND field presence? Sign me up. *cough* Wait,
never mind. The Stealth Bird rant article isn’t until next
month >.>;
So if you love Earth, love the OCG, and love underrated
cards that most TCG players wouldn’t even look at, try these
two cards for a nice one-two punch of 1800ness.
