Be Nice -Beaverman

Usually, I like to write articles about somewhat controversial subjects such as cookie-cutting, but the focus of this one is behavior.
I know that we have all been told many times about friendly behavior and being cordial to new players, but some people still don't seem to get what that means, so I'll write a guide to behavior in Yugioh.

1. Be welcoming. Everybody was once a beginner. You have to accept that some people will play slowly and not know what all of your cards do by seeing them. You shouldn't accuse somebody of being a "newb" because they are new at the game. Instead, you should encourage them, in hopes of getting them to go to tournaments on a regular basis. For example, a new player recently came to my local store for a tournament. I had to play him on the first round, and his deck wasn't quite adjusted to duel my burn deck. He lost pretty badly, but we were both pretty friendly. But, he was quick. The next week, he came with a deck that could easily combat a burn deck in addition to being able to fight most other decks. He beat my friend who has been playing since Metal Raiders.

2. Be humble. Players that are very skilled become arrogant. This results in them accidentally putting down less skilled players, even if they are not conscious of it.

3. Be accepting. Players should have the right to use whatever deck type they want, and choose whatever cards they feel are appropriate. Just last tournament, somebody laughed at my Thunder Dragons. They weren't laughing when I removed them for BLS.

4. Be gracious. If you win, just be nice about it. If they did well, say they put up a good fight. If they didn't, say it anyways. If you lose, compliment them on their skill, don't make excuses.

5. Watch your mouth! Somebody was mouthing off about how bad I was and how I got smashed after I lost a duel. I then challenged him and proceeded to single-handedly annihilate him. Dueling him was only fun because I got to wipe that smirk of his face. He was arrogant, unfocused, and annoying. Dueling him was only rewarding in getting him to shut up.

Anyways, be nice. Sorry I kinda went off there, but that kid was really annoying.

Thank You,
Beaverman
