My trail from newbie to average player began in
November 2004 just after my dad had left home after
revealing hed' been having an affair. My friend Mark
and i had started playing .hack/enemy the card game
and we'd just found the gaming shop FanBoy3 (Newton,
st, Manchester England! lol) where we played .hack
when we werent at Uni. Mark already played Yu Gi Oh!
and had been trying to get me to play it for months
(Nagging he was). So anyway he finally got me to buy
some cards, i got the latest set, soul of the
duelist (Mark a RPG mentalist, had got excited about
the fact that you could "Level
Up!") After a few days i had a deck (a lame lame
armed dragon deck). At Marks hosue he let me use one
his two decks, one was burn and the other was blue
eyes deck. I cant remember which deck i chose, but i
did learn how to play the game during that week. Or
so i thought, Mark hadnt accurately read the rule
book so thigns were quite sketchy, things like book
of moon and other quickplays which we thought we
culd activate from our hands during our
opponents turn, and that mst and dust tornado could
destroy magic cards like
pot of greed when they were activated, to stop the
effect... oh dear. At
FanBoy3 though Lami ( a veteran of Yu gi oh form the
start) and Simon Ho ( similar but more patronizing,
lol) corrected us and hleped me especially with deck
contruction. Our decks steadily became better as did
our collections...
After my dad left i went a bit mad with my student
loan, as it was a realease and wasa bit of colour in
all the grey (Emo! Emo!, booooooooo!
rofl) so a spent alot, mainly on SOD (My obseesion
with compelting that set was unhealthy) and then
IOC. Soul of duelist took me around 4 monhts (!) to
xcomplete as i didnt have any trades worthy of
anything and i was v unlucky with my boosters. I
eventualy ended up bying off Horus lvl8 off a lad
called
Irifan for £15 (which was pretty good) completeing
the set. In between this i was buying random
boosters but mostly Ioc. The first Single card i
bought off line though, my bestest of cards ever
(just for the art really lol) was bought in the
january of 2005. This i got for £9.99 and was so
shiny it made
me feel chuffed (happier American fans), it was 1st
ed Injection fairyt lily, my still most cherised
card along with DCR d.d warrior lady.
