A Rant on the Ban List - By darkmagegirl
Well I'm going to take a break from 'Lesser Played
Decks' for a bit and give my two cents (more like a
dollar) on the new ban list. For those of you who
just want me to get to my point here it is: We are
exactly a year back in time and this gives us little
or no progress in the evolving meta.
For those of you who want to know why, I'll explain,
but let's start with the banned cards.
NEW: Cyber Jar, Time Seal, Exchange of the Spirit,
Last Turn, Dark Hole
First off, Cyber Jar, the only reason this card was
banned was over-use. It has never been banned before
and it has been running rampant in duels and if a
player topdecks this beast, most likely they can
hold out or win the duel. However, I can expect to
see this card come back in October. Truly I think
they are experimenting with this list and that, like
Dark Hole, it will revert to its original position,
that is, limited to 1.
Time Seal, now this card saw a huge burst of
popularity as soon as it was announced that it would
be banned. Most people (I think) had forgotten about
this card and did not realize the power of skipping
that draw phase. Of course, It should not have been
banned on the account that we do not have Victory
Dragon over here.
Exchange of the Spirit, Come on, just come on. Is
Kevin Tewart against this card as a mortal enemy?
This card was prerestricted and now banned after one
format change. Just as I was thinking that a EotS
deck was possible, even with only 1, they go ahead
and ban it.
This card has not caused any major upsets and any
ones it would have caused are the duelists fault for
not preparing to counter EotS. Poor decision here.
Last Turn, See Above.
Dark Hole, The Only card that really and truly
deserved to be banned here. It was too much of an
upset and too easy to get. Also, the opponent can't
shift his best monsters to defense to save them from
Dark Hole, can he? Anyway, wise choice to ban this
one.
Now for the Limited Cards.
NEW: D. D. Assailant, Drop Off, Graceful Charity,
Last Will, Level Limit - Area B, Mask of Darkness,
Mirror Force, Pot of Avarice, Treeborn Frog
Okay D.D. Assailant, we all saw this coming a mile
away. Kinda obvious.
Drop Off, again, without victory dragon, almost
useless but it did see some sideboard play at
tournaments.
Graceful Charity, This card should read 'You may not
dicard any card with "Dark World" in the name by
this cards effect'. But it doesn't, and so we have
to deal with DW for the next six months. W/e, I just
need to find a card I call 'Exile of The Wicked',
lol
Last Will, is it really that good. Sure I got pwned
nin one turn when my opponent plays last will, sacs
his fd for levia dragon, calls cyber stein, uses a
storm, summons cyber twin, but that's it. IN my
VWXYZ deck, I discard this more often than not.
Level Limit - Area B, this was an ok limit, I don't
see it played much and just when I remembered that
some monsters can attack while in defense mode,
annoy opponent as hell, they decide to restrict it.
Mask of Darkness, I never saw this get used in
tournament play, not once. Again, give us Victory
Dragon, and maybe.
Mirror Force, Yay, more balanced than Dark Hole,
harder to come by, and just an all out better card
except for the fact that it can be negated by Jinzo
Pot of Avarice, this could have been semi-limited. I
finally created a deck with lots of firepower and
could afford to run two of these babies, but it's
stuck at one unfortunately.
Treeborn Frog, if this wasn't limited, Monarch
control would run rampant, good idea.
Just a note, I'm surprised to not see 'Magical
Dimension' on the list, when it first came out there
was lotsof talk about it, now I guess there isn't
really enough spellcasters that are tourney-worthy.
Semi Limits, probably the best ideas were here.
New! Apprentice Magician, Deck Devastation Virus,
Magician of Faith, Nobleman of Crossout, Reflect
Bounder
Apprentice Magician was a must because with MoF
coming back to two, good idea.
I never saw deck devastation virus but it may see
play with Dark World.
Magician of Faith, good, this and noblemen will
bring us up a notch with game speed, also instead of
Cyber Jar, we can topdeck this!
Nobleman of Crossout balances out the MoF's, so this
is also a good choice.
Reflect Bounder, god it was hard enough to get one,
but I never saw another duelist use this aside form
myself, we can do this.
Well theres my thoughts, email me at darkmagegirl@gmail.com
for your thoughts or a request for lesser played
decks.
