Subject: Cool Cards for Chaos! Part 1 - Master of
Shadows
Hello, again, people! Master of Shadows is back with
a tip for Chaos decks. I'll be looking at two cards
today that could help - Generation Shift and Next to
be Lost, two common Traps from Shadow of Infinity.
Let's take a look at them.
Generation Shift
Normal Trap
Destroy 1 face-up monster on your side of the field.
Add 1 card from your Deck to your hand with the same
name as the destroyed card.
Next to be Lost
Normal Trap
Select 1 face-up monster on your side of the field.
Send 1 card from your Deck to the Graveyard with the
same name as the selected card.
Both of these cards send a monster to the Graveyard.
The question is this: where would you rather have
the monster - on the field or in your hand?
Each card has its uses. Both can fill up your
Graveyard with monsters. Time to analyze each one
individually.
Generation Shift first. It destroys a monster on
your field. At the same time, you get to add a
monster to your hand from your deck with the same
name as the selected monster. This can be useful if
you have many monsters with the same name that
require more of themselves to be in the Graveyard.
This could also be useful in E-Hero decks (Miracle
Fusion) and Dragon decks (Dragon's Mirror).
Not only can it do that, but it could also get your
opponent to waste his/her Sakuretsu Armor or other
Trap card that targets a monster. Generation Shift,
in essence, returns your monster to your hand at the
cost of a monster with the same name from your deck.
"If that's the case, then why not use Compulsory
Evacuation Device? It does that, only without the
cost, and it can return your opponent's monsters as
well." That's true, but not if you're using a Chaos
deck or a deck that has monsters that need more of
themselves in the Graveyard to get the most out of
their effect. Ones that come to mind are Divine
Dragon - Excelion, Disciple of the Forbidden Spell,
Malice Ascendant, Chain Thrasher, and Hero Kid
(Miracle Kids).
Now let's look at Next to be Lost. You keep your
monster. You just send a card from your deck with
the same name. "Then why use it?" For the reasons
stated. You want to fill up your Graveyard with
monsters to remove for Chaos Sorcerer / any other
card that requires monsters in the Graveyard / any
Chaos-style summon (remove X amount of Y Attribute
monsters from play to summon this card). "I could
get monsters in the Grave just by suiciding them.
I'll summon it after the Battle Phase." Sometimes,
you need that extra monster beforehand.
Ask yourself this question: How many times have you
been stuck with a Chaos-style-summon monster but
didn't have the required monster(s) in the Graveyard
but only had them on the field or didn't have
enough? Your answer (if you've ever run a deck
requiring those type of monsters) should be quite a
few. This is where Generation Shift and Next to be
Lost come in. They're good cards if you know their
uses. Have fun using them.
