Subject: Pooks latest article
Maybe Pook should have stayed gone from the game. If
he thinks that GX is the reason Yu-Gi-Oh is in
trouble. Thats a lame cop out and he knows it...or
at least I hope he does.
Pook seems to love the original anime so much, well
so does UDE and Konami. They love it so much, they
want to see the actual game reflect the anime. Do
you see Kiaba, Yugi, Tia, Joey, Pegasus, etc... all
showing up to a tournament running the same deck
with 3-4 cards difference? Nope... Do you see them
showing up trash talking and attempting to
intimidate little kids? Nope... Do you see them
showing up as members of "team this" and "team that"
and using those teams to wrongfully help members top
8 by spying and throwing games etc...? Nope...
Imagine what the anime (either one) would be like if
it followed the real path the game of Yu-Gi-Oh
has....think about it for a second......pretty
crappy huh? THAT my friends is whats wrong with the
game of Yu-Gi-Oh, not the GX anime.
The BIGGEST problem in Yu-Gi-Oh is people like Pook.
All they care about is tournament play. Let me
rephrase that, 'Bad' tournament play. And if a card
can't be abused (not just 'used'..."ABUSED") in
tournament play, then it gets a 1/5 and sucks. I've
said this before in letters to various pojo.com
authors, you guys are the LAST people who should be
writing articles about whats wrong with the game,
because YOU GUYS are whats wrong with the game.
Everything is +1 this and -1 that. Never about
having fun or being creative, only about "staple"
cards that allow the "pros" to be lazy and create a
championship deck with as little creative thought as
possible.
I too have been disappointed in some recent sets to
be released. It often feels like there is one good
card and the rest is just filler material. I agree,
that is unacceptable. But what does that have to do
with the anime? The recent sets have been bad dating
back to before the original anime ended. So does
that mean that the original anime caused them to be
bad? Of course not.
I admit that the Hero cards aren't the greatest
cards ever printed. But if you actually care to try,
they are fun to play. And don't tell me that they're
bad for the game and that even younger duelist hate
GX. I've seen the excitement young players have for
these cards. And that flows from their interest in
the anime. The Hero fusions have been some of the
highest going rates on eBay I've ever seen. So how
can you say no one likes them? Apparently somebody
does!
The Sneek peak for Power of Duelist is a great
example of whats REALLY wrong with the game. It was
very impressive because it brought support for old
themes while creating completely new ones. But I'm
willing to bet that it will be considered a failure
by people like Pook. Why? Because while D-hero,
Alien, and Dinosaur decks are fun to play, require
creativity to make and use, and are great for the
game, they wont see tournament play.
And as we all know, if it isn't tournament worthy,
then its all garbage to pojo...
You guys should take some hints from the guys at
metagame.com. They know how to cover tournament
worthy cards, while not dumping on fun to play
cards. And most of all, they aren't blaming an
anime, for problems caused by the games top players
and worst of all, the new thing "teams".
