Trading Card Game Tips from fans

Subject: Take Magic Cylinder, add 100 mls of water and it
will grow into a healthy Dimension Wall-darkmagegirl
This is my first article on pojo but i hope it will be a
good one so here goes.
I have been noticing lately that a bunch of cards have had
'watered down' versions of them made. Which brings me to
wonder, will the 'big brothers' of these remakes be banned?
Lets look at some of these shall we?
Magic Cylinder
Negate the attack of 1 of your opponent's monsters and
inflict Direct Damage equal to the attacking monster's ATK
to your opponent's Life Points.
and its little brother,
Dimension Wall
You can only activate this card when your opponent declares
an attack with a monster. Instead of you, your opponent
takes the Battle Damage you would have taken as a result of
this battle.
So we see, magic cylinder is currently limited to 1 and is a
favorite among duelists. However, dimension wall has no
limits and plenty of things that make it worse like the fact
that it doesn't negate the attack and does less damage than
magic cylinder would do(unless it's a direct attack). Now
what can we see from this, who knows magic cyllinder may be
banned some day, but it isn't really a game winning card(if
it is, its probably coincidence) and it gives you no field
advantage except maybe turning a possible -1 to a 0. I don't
expect this to be used much, but it may if so, what have
come to?
Lets look at something else that has already been banned,
shall we.
Ring of destruction
Destroy 1 face-up Monster Card and inflict Direct Damage
equal to destroyed card's ATK to the Life Points of both you
and your opponent.
So again, a great card, but now only for traditional because
it was just to good. especially with BEUDs release
this+BEUD+Barrel behind the door=OTK. also, burn damage can
end the game fast with this and so i think it was a good
idea for this to be banned. This has 2 watered down
versions* but i'll talk about the newer(and, in my opinion,
better) version, Chthonian Blast.
Chthonian Blast
You can only activate this card when a face-up monster on
your side of the field is destroyed and sent to the
Graveyard. Destroy 1 face-up monster with the lowest ATK on
the field, and both players take damage equal to half of its
ATK.
So chthonian blast takes some choices away from us like
which monster we choose and when the card can be activated.
Also the burn damage is reduced by half and thus, less
likely to be a game-ender. Lets look at how we can bend the
rules of Chthonian blast shall we? The part about when you
can activastes this card pretty much has you nailed down.
It's very specific in that there's no way you can discard
from your hand or use you opponents 'Vampire lord' to your
advantage, However, if your goin to tribute summon, this can
help as it meets the activation requirements as long as your
tribute-fodder is face up at the time of sacrifice.. But i
suspect people may start to run this card in multiples when
they realize this cards potential with no limits. If
suddenly everyone starts running 3, then you should get 'Tsukuyomi'
and 'Book of Moon' to flip your opponents monsters down to
escape this card. Again for the second rule which is a
little more easy to bend, 'Tsukyomi' can help too. Just make
the monster you want to destroy the weakest monster face up
on the field. You can either decrease the monster you want
to destroy's attack points(i.e. Mask of
Weakness) or increase on of your own monsters attack
points(i.e.
Rising Energy). In short, we get monster destruction that we
can semi-choose if we have the right support, this card
woorks if you run a lot of high ATK monsters because they
will probably not be destoryed. As for the burn damage, the
lowest attack point monster on the field isn't going to have
many attack points, unless its the only monster. I think
we'll look at one more set of watered-down cards.
Jinzo
As long as this card remains face-up on the field, Trap
Cards cannot be activated. The effects of all face-up Trap
Cards are negated.
I know you're thinking, 'What, I don't know any card like
Jinzo that's watered down!' but alas, i speak of one of the
newer E-Heroes.
Wildheart.
Elemental Hero Wildheart
This card is unaffected by the effects of Trap Cards.
Jinzo, I see, is a prime target of getting banned. He is
overused, extremelyu good and a card its impossible to not
see at least 5 of at a tournament. He's dark(chaos food),
Machine(limiterable,is that a word?), a 6 star with 2400
ATK(not bad) and 1500 DEF(Tsukuyomi-proof).
He negates all traps and only has 3 counters that will be
used in tournaments(that i have seen):Solemn Judgement,
Divine Wrath and Horn of Heaven. Wildheart is unaffected by
traps but all other cards still will be, which isn't as much
of a lock. I have seen wildheart in a warrior deck as well
as others but his weak attack points don't count for much,
but at least hes not terrible.
*Destruction ring may seem more obvious, but who would use
that?(no offense meant to the people who do use destruction
ring)
Thats it for now, i hope you have liked my article and i
hope to be writing more for pojo. Any comments, questions,
etc can be emailed to me at darkmagegirl@gmail.com. Just to
let you know, i am a guy it's just dark magician girl is my
fav card :). I will soon open my own yu-gi-oh site and if
you'd like to help, your asistance would be appreciated.
