Subject: Don't rain on the parade; flood it out! - Master of Shadows

Hello, people. Got something else for you. A tip on Water decks. Being a Water duelist myself, I like trying to see what works with flooding my opponent and what doesn't. Let's take a look at some potential cards for a Water deck.

Name

Attribute / Type / Level / Attack / Defense

Effect

My thoughts

A Legendary Ocean

Spell / Field

This card's name is treated as "Umi." Downgrade the levels of all WATER monsters by one and increase the ATK and DEF of all WATER monsters by 200 points.

This is why we use Water decks. Because of this and its combo-ability with Gravity Bind / Level Limit - Area B. Plus it makes all Level 5 Water monsters summonable without Tribute. No doubt the backbone of Water decks.

Amphibious Bugroth MK-3

Water / Machine / 4 stars / 1500 / 1300

This card can attack directly while "Umi" is face-up on the field.

The description's a rough recollection, but more or less the same. This is a Water deck's best weapon. One that uses Umi anyway. If your opponent doesn't deal with this or Umi, your opponent's looking at a loss in 4-5 turns. Definitely needed for a competitive Water deck.

Mermaid Knight

Water / Aqua / 4 stars / 1500 / 700

This card can attack twice during the same Battle Phase while "Umi" is face-up on the field.

A double-attacking 1700 monster. With such a low attack power, double-attacking isn't going to be that great. Unless your opponent's monster has a low attack / defense or your opponent's field is clear, this effect won't go off too often. Next.

Hydrogeddon

Water / Dinosaur / 4 stars / 1600 / 1000

When this monster destroys your opponent's monster as a result of battle, you can Special Summon one "Hydrogeddon" from your deck to the field.

A nice monster that gets its effect off of destroying monsters. Can swarm the field. Adds deck thinning. Can be used as Tribute bait next turn. You name. A good card for Water decks. User discretion advised.

Levia-Dragon - Daedalus

Water / Sea Serpent / 7 stars / 2600 / 1500

Send a face-up "Umi" on your side of the field to the graveyard to destroy all cards on the field except this card.

Add it to your Water deck. A good trump card (if you will). Can clear the field and essentially reset the field. If you're lucky, you're opponent will have very limited options. Use with caution. When used, make sure you have protection for it to keep your opponent from using it against you. Snatch Steal comes up at the most inopportune times.

Mobius the Frost Monarch

Water / Aqua / 6 stars / 2400 / 1000

When this card is Tribute Summoned successfully, you can destroy up to two Spells or Traps on the field.

Enough said. This sees a lot of play. Mostly for the Spell / Trap removal. Being a Monarch with 2400 attack could be another reason. Good in many decks, mainly for the much needed Spell / Trap removal.

Fenrir

Water / Beast / 4 stars / 1400 / 1200

Didn't put the effect up for a reason. It basically says remove 2 Water monsters in your graveyard to Special Summon this card. If it destroys something and sends it to the graveyard, your opponent skips their Draw Phase. With that said, he makes for nice Tribute bait. Can also lock down your opponent's draw. User discretion advised.

Mother Grizzly

Water / Beast-Warrior / 4 stars / 1400 / 1000

Basic battle searcher for Water monsters

That's its effect. Didn't feel like typing it. I'm sure you know what a battle searcher is. Can search out a Water decks main weapons, not to mention itself and can serve as deck thinning. Use it. Abuse it.

Nightmare Penguin

Water / Aqua / 4 stars / 900 / 1800

When this card is flipped face up, return 1 card on your opponent's side of the field to the owner's hand. Also, increase the attack of all your Water monsters by 200 points.

A bouncer for Water decks. Not to mention it can bounce any card, whether it be a monster, Spell, or Trap. Has a nice defense. Plus it can power up Water monsters. Your call.

The bottom line is this: Water decks have a lot of good cards with many good effects. They are very versatile. Why they don't see too much play is beyond me.

Until next time...
