Reader Tips, Rants and Raves

Subject: GX Deck Attempt - Zach Frazier
Just for fun, and partly because I was inspired by Mako, I
wanted to take a crack at creating a character deck. The one
I chose is my favorite character from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Chazz
Princeton. Chazz uses a few different strategies throughout
the show, but I'm going to focus on the deck that he uses
the most. (Fun Fact: Chazz is one of the only 3 people
throughout the entire show (original and GX) who use Call of
the Haunted, and one of the only 2 who use it correctly.)
Chazz's deck has 3 main themes: the Ojama trio, the Armed
Dragon set, and the VWXYZ monsters. He focuses more on the
Ojamas, though, since they are his Duel Spirits. The Deck
I'm making today isn't going to be too competitive, but it's
a lot of fun to use.
First, let's focus on the Ojama combos. Chazz uses cards
like Ojamagic, Ojamuscle, Ojama Delta Hurricane!!, and Ojama
Trio to assist his Ojamas. These cards, with the exception
of Ojama Trio, just scream situational, so we'll only use 1
of each in the deck, along with 1 of each Ojama and 1
Polymerization.
Moving along to the real power of the deck, we come to the
Armed Dragon cards. These are a set of LV monsters, so they
can grow more powerful as the duel passes. I like to use a
system that I used in the Pokemon card game for LV
monsters-for the lowest level, use as many as you can fit in
the deck, and for each higher level, use 1 less than the
previous level. So we have 3 LV3s, 2 LV5s, and 1 LV7.
In order to assist them, and to stay with character, we'll
add 1 Masked Dragon, 2 Level Up!s, 1 The Graveyard in the
Fourth Dimension, and 1 Level Modulation. We'll also need
some monsters to discard for the effects of the Armed
Dragons, so we add in Despair from the Dark, as well as
Armed Changer and Monster Reincarnation to re-use monsters.
We'll have Snatch Steal and Axe of Despair as well, for
something to ditch for Armed Changer.
For the VWXYZ monsters, we'll need the monsters themselves,
of course, but also we'll use 1 Frontline Base and 1 Roll
Out!. This will help to summon the pieces faster.
For the Fusion Deck, we'll have 1 Ojama King, 1 VW-Tiger
Catapult, 1 XYZ-Dragon Cannon, and 1 VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult
Cannon.
Now for the rest of the deck. We'll add in Sangan, Dark
Hole, Heavy Storm, Mystical Space Typhoon, Swords of
Revealing Light, Premature Burial, Torrential Tribute, and
Sakuretsu Armor, just to add a bit of extra destruction,
stall, and revival.
So the final deck looks like this:
Monsters: 17
Ojama Green
Ojama Yellow
Ojama Black
V-Tiger Jet
W-Wing Catapult
X-Head Cannon
Y-Dragon Head
Z-Metal Tank
Armed Dragon LV3 x3
Armed Dragon LV5 x2
Armed Dragon LV7
Masked Dragon
Sangan
Despair from the Dark
Spells: 18
Ojamagic
Ojamuscle
Ojama Delta Hurricane!!
Polymerization
Frontline Base
Level Up! x2
The Graveyard in the Fourth Dimension
Level Modulation
Monster Reincarnation
Armed Changer
Axe of Despair
Dark Hole
Heavy Storm
Mystical Space Typhoon
Swords of Revealing Light
Premature Burial
Snatch Steal
Traps: 5
Call of the Haunted
Ojama Trio
Roll Out!
Torrential Tribute
Sakuretsu Armor
Fusion Deck: 4
Ojama King
VW-Tiger Catapult
XYZ-Dragon Cannon
VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon
This deck is very combo-oriented. Actually pulling off the
different combos in the deck may be slightly difficult. I
have play tested this deck a few times, and it tends to work
fairly well. I have had a couple of bad draws, though,
because of the Ojamas, but other than that it works well.
