Thunder Cards - Jeroen
Mandersloot
Hello, readers.
In this article, I will review three cards that are related
to an unsupported type of card: Thunder Cards. I think
Thunder Monsters could be really cool, but only if they get
more support. That’s what we’re going to do in this article.
Let’s take a look at the names of the cards first:
- Paralyzing Thunderbolt
- Shock
- Thunder Giant
Well, on to the cards themself. First, we’ll look at
‘Paralyzing Thunderbolt’. A nice spell card that can combo
with any other Thunder Monster, just like the second card.
Here it is:
Paralyzing Thunderbolt
Spell/Equip
“You can only activate this card when you have at least one
face-up Thunder Monster on your side of the field. Select
one Monster on your opponent’s side of the field and equip
it with this card. The equipped Monster cannot attack or
change his battle position. The controller of the equipped
Monster loses 1000 Life Points during each of his-her
standby phases. Destroy this card when there are no face-up
Thunder Monsters on your side of the field.”
Common
It looks a bit like ‘Mask of the Accursed’. This card can
burn your opponent fastly, but it requires a Thunder Monster
to be on the field, which could be a hard thing. I think it
could see some play, but not much. The equipped Monster
could just be sacrificied for something like Mobius the
Frost Monarch, but still, you did a nice 1000 damage. All in
all, this card does have potential, but it needs a right
deck to work in.
That was out first card. Let’s take a look at the second
one:
Shock
Spell/Normal
“You can only activate this card when there is a face-up
Thunder Monster on your side of the field. Select one
Monster on your opponent’s side of the field. If the
selected Monster is still on the field during your 2nd end
phase after this card’s activation, destroy the selected
Monster.”
Common
Well this an interesting card. Just by having a Thunder
Monster on your field, you could destroy one of your
opponent’s Monsters. This card will most certainly lead to a
1 for 1. Even if the Monster doesn’t get destroyed by this
card, it will be destroyed before the 2nd end phase. The
only way of getting a –1 disadvantage, is if the Monster is
sent back to your opponent’s hand. An opposing ‘Spirit
Reaper’ could be destroyed right after this card’s
activation. A Jinzo will only be able to stall you for one
more turn. Personally, I think this card could see some play
if Thunder Decks would be made more playable.
That’s card #2. Here is our last card, Thunder Giant:
Thunder Giant
Lv. 4
Light
Thunder/Effect
“This card cannot be destroyed as a result of battle when
this card attacks an opponent’s Monster. When this card
attacks an opponent’s Monster, destroy the opponent’s
Monster in your next standby phase.”
1700/1600
Super Rare
First, let’s take a look at the stats. It’s attack is pretty
good and his defense can hold a counterless ‘Breaker the
Magical Warrior’. When attacking an opponent’s Monster, this
card cannot be destroyed as a result of battle, so it could
attack a ‘Jinzo’ or ‘Mobius’ without getting destroyed
itself, but most likely, be destroyed in your opponent’s
turn. With the later coming ‘Stunning Blast’, a continous
Spell that prevents all Monsters attacked by Thunder
Monsters to attack in their turn. That’s a card that would
form a great combo with this one. This card has some
potential in a Thunder Deck, where it could get some support
and I think it could be a really annoying card for your
opponent to deal with.
Thanks for reading this article and I hope you enjoyed it.
