Subject: What kind of player are you?-- Chaosmech

What kind of player are you?

Hey everybody! Chaosmech, that's me, is back! I'm a CCG tip writer on Pojo.
I mostly fix and design decks, but I am known to occasionally spit out something thought-provoking and relevant. Give me a subject, and I could probably rant about it for a page or so. But that's not why I've submitted this article. I'm attempting to spit out thought-provoking material, though I will attempt to incorporate some humor. This article deals with the types of players in the Yu-gi-oh! world, and how you can recognize them.
I'll be using something I call the MICRO-FAT system, an eight-part classification that encompasses most of the Yu-gi-oh realm of players. Each of the letters stands for something, which means that MICRO-FAT is an acronym. Here they are.

M- Mentor
This is perhaps one of the most important classifications. The Mentor may or

may not play the card game, but they do know about it. The Mentor is often the one who helps the new players become better, and may bequeath their cards to a newer player. The Mentor is one who teaches the game, and without

them, there would fewer players around. Every player is a Mentor to a degree, but without the serious Mentors, some of the good players might not be as good. The Mentor is often the one who gets others interested in the game, and starts many a new player off.

I- Intern
The Intern is really just another name for a new player, but it had to fit in the MICRO part of the acronym, so there you have it. The Intern is the new player on the block, armed with a starter deck and maybe a few extra cards given them by another player. They know almost nothing about the game,

and some may play cards just because a character in the anime does it. They might watch the show, hoping to pick up tips. This is where an ordinary player can become a Mentor. By teaching an Intern how to play, an ordinary player becomes a Mentor, and the Intern becomes an ordinary player. Everyone

gains an increase in status. Everyone is happier.

C- Collector
The Collector is one who owns cards just to have all of them. They are very trade-savvy, and many are also top duelists. The Collector can fit into just

about any other category, so it's a multi-role label. They never trade a rare card unless they have more than one of it, and they may have or are aspiring to have a full collection of at least one set. It's hard to pry a good card out of the Collector's hands, even in a trade.

R- Rabid Dueler
Note that I used the term "dueler" instead of "duelist." There's a reason for that. Many think that duelist is a term for any Yu-gi-oh! player, but in

reality, the duelists are those who actually use their cards for dueling, not for merely collecting and trading. The Rabid Dueler may have a trading policy that consists of trading for whatever cards fit their deck at the time, not worrying about rarity or anything else. They duel at every opportunity, and most carry their decks almost everywhere they go. They are usually the ones on top at the tournaments, but may not have good cards to trade. They stay in touch with the metagame, and may change their deck accordingly.

O- Omniscient
Now, most of you will be wondering what the heck this word means. For bonus points, you can email me and tell me what it is. (the bonus points aren't really worth anything but recognition in my next CCG tip). Anyway, this person is the one who memorizes the stats, type, attribute, and effect of at

least 80% of the cards that exist. Ask what a card does, and the Omniscient will know. These are the ones who often become UDE judges, and know rulings for every controversial card.

F- Fanatic
The Fanatic eats, sleeps, breathes, and lives Yu-gi-oh! They watch the show,

play the game, eat the cereal (just kidding), wear the clothes, and maybe even wear their hair like Yugi. They might have a fake Brooklyn accent like Joey, or they may have the "I'm-so-bad" Seto Kaiba attitude. They can quote characters on the show, and know precisely what every card in the game and the anime does and why each character uses it. This person is the ultimate player, who incorporates Yu-gi-oh! into every part of their life.

A- Average duelist
This person is really a mix of all the others combined. They have a good balance of dueling skill, deck creation skill, trading skill, and they know just enough about the show to know that it's not a good place to go for strategy. There really isn't anything extremely different about the Average duelist, but these are the ones who make up the vast majority of the population. These are the ones that make it to the finals in the National Tournaments. These are the ones that can tell you where to go to find a good

card. These are the under-appreciated, often-overlooked everyday, normal duelists that carry the majority of the weight. AD's, I salute you!

T- Trader
Last is the Trader. Similar to the Collector in many ways, he or she is not necessarily savvy. This is the person that likes to see new cards, not necessarily good ones. They love to buy new packs, because they get new cards and some they can trade for old ones that they don't have. Collectors and Traders are very similar, and in fact, Collector and Trader attributes often combine in one person. At the same time, however, one can be a Trader and not a Collector, and vice versa.

Many of these attributes can combine together, so pick the three (or less) that describe you best, and put them together. For example, if you are a Collector, Average duelist, and Mentor, you could be a CAM duelist.

Until then, this Chaosmech, saying,
Keep it cool.

You can email me at chaosmech@juno.com, chaosmech@hotmail.com, or chaostalker@hotmail.com. I really don't care; it's all the same to me.
