Reader Tips, Rants and Raves
Hello again, readers.
I’m back with three more cards. Last article gave me a good
idea of two more cards: the two missing Monarches.
Unfortunately, they aren’t as good as the others, but they
still have potential. Our third card will be loved by
Invader of Darkness fans:
- Verthon the Doomed Monarch
- Eureis the Sky Monarch
- Prince of Darkness
To start today’s article, let’s take a look at the fifth
Monarch: Verthon.
Verthon the Doomed Monarch
MFR-004
Lv. 6
Dark
Fiend/Effect
“When this card is tribute summoned succesfully, remove up
to 5 cards from both player’s Graveyards from play.”
2400/1000
Super Rare
The stats are the same as the stats of all the other
Monarches. He’s a Dark and a Fiend, just like all the cards
from the previous article. And again, when you are able to
tribute summon this Monster, you’ll get an effect. This one
will allow you to remove up to 5 cards in your own Graveyard
from play and remove 5 cards in your opponent’s Graveyard
from play. So actually, when this card is tribute summoned,
it gives you 2 ‘Soul Release’. I know this card is the only
Monarch until now that doesn’t destroy a card when it is
summoned, but still, his effect could be really nifty.
Altouhg this card gives you a –1 disadvantage when summoned,
you could prepare for a hugh swarm ( Return from the
Different Dimension/Dimension Fusion ) or you could power up
your Gren Maju Da Eiza by 2000 attack and defense. That’s
pretty good for a 3-star Monster I’d say. And don’t forget
those annoying Chaos decks ( they are less annoying now BLS
is gone, but sometimes they just ruin your whole strategy ).
This card could ruin their strategy by removing their Chaos
food out of their Graveyard. Well, that’s about it for the
fifth Monarch. In a RFG deck, I would definitly try this
thing out, so I’ll give it a 3.9/5 there. Most of the time,
because of the fact that RFG decks don’t use a lot of
tribute monsters. In a standard deck, you won’t be able to
benefit from his effect very often, but who knows, it might
come in handy sometimes: 2.3/5.
Now let’s take a look at the sixth Monarch: Eureis.
Eureis the Sky Monarch
MFR-005
Lv. 6
Wind
Winged-Beast/Effect
“When this card is tribute summoned succesfully, destroy one
face-up card on your opponent’s side of the field.”
2400/1000
Super Rare
Again, the same stats and the same way of activating it’s
effect. This card is kinda like the counterpart of Granmarg.
It can take out a face-up Trap, Spell or Monster Card on
your opponent’s side of the field. The most Spell and Trap
cards will be face-down, except for a few ( Royal Decree,
which sees a lot of play, and Gravity Bind, Level Limit Area
– B, Messenger of Peace etc ). If your opponent will have a
face-up Monster on his/her side of the field, it will most
likely be Spirit Reaper or a high defense monster. If it is
a high attack Monster, it will be unlikely for you to summon
this card, since that strong Monster just wipes out all your
Monsters so there won’t be anything to use as tribute bait.
I would say this card is worser than Granmarg, and even he
doesn’t see very much play. Nothing special to this card,
just a 2.3/5 in every deck, it might destroy a Monster, but
don’t count on it that it happens very often.
Let’s see if the final card of today’s article is worth to
be put in your deck. Here comes ‘Prince of Darkness’, which
needs ‘Invader of Darkness’ to be on the field.
Prince of Darkness
MFR-026
Lv. 9
Dark
Fiend/Effect
“This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card
cannot be Special Summoned except by offering one face-up
‘Invader of Darkness’ on your side of the field as a trbute.
As long as this card remains face-up on the field, your
opponent cannot activate any Spell Cards.”
3400/2900
Ultra Rare
This card has superior stats and a very nifty effect. It’s
only, but very big, drawback is that it needs ‘Invader of
Darkness’ to be face-up on your field. ‘Invader of Darkness’
is a two-tribute Monster with no support cards to bring him
out quickly at all, so it could be quite hard to get this
card on your field. Of course you could just dump Invader
from your hand by Lightning Vortex for example and then
revive it with something else to summon this card. When you
get this card out on the field, you’re safe to all Spell
Cards of your opponent. The effect of this card is pretty
much similar to that of Horus the Black Flame Dragon Lv. 8
except for one thing: when you’ve got this card out, you
still can activate Spells, but with Horus you can’t. Horus
is a bit easier to summon, but this card shouldn’t be that
hard. You could try this card out with Royal Decree, so your
opponent is only allowed to play his Monsters and then
you’ve pretty much ‘lockdowned’ them. Well, there isn’t
anything more I can say about this card. Except that it
might be hard to summon it, but it could be worth it, since
you’ll make about 16 cards in your opponent’s deck useless.
Well, that’s it for today again.
Next article will contain more support cards for ‘Invader of
Darkness’ so that today’s final card can be a little bit
more playable.
‘Til next time ;).
