Subject: The Proper Use of Cyber Dragons- Matt
Hello, my name is Matt, and I have been playing Yu-Gi-Oh!
for five years now, since I was in seventh grade (I am
currently a Junior in High School). I am writing today to
address the use of the popular "Cyber Dragon" card. Now
don't get me wrong, I think it is a great card... However,
it is being used in the wrong way by many people, most
notably those with cookie-cutter decks.
I personally have a Cyber Dragon deck, and notice I said
"Cyber Dragon deck."
I, and I am sure a few other as well, am trying to make a
dedicated Cyber Dragon deck, similar to the one used by Zane
on Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. This I believe was the true intended
purpose of Konami when releasing Cyber Dragons, to have them
be made into their own decktype, and not just be thrown into
every deck because it is good. Honestly, when you really
think about it, the card is not that good. Its effect allows
it to be Special Summoned
when the opponent has a least one monster on the field, and
you have none. Once the card is on the field, it is
basically just a regular 2100 ATK monster, with no effect to
help you.
When put into a cookie-cutter deck, it really serves no
purpose, other than providing the player with a one-time
free Special Summoned when used correctly. With no support
cards for it, the Cyber Dragon is unable to thrive during
the duel, and waits until it is sacrificed for a monster or
just regularly used to attack, but will probably be killed
eventually.
In my deck, I try to use cards that supports Cyber Dragon,
by incorporating Power Bond and Polymerization to fuse into
Cyber Twin Dragon and Cyber End Dragon (and yes, I have done
it quite a few times). I am also planning on using three
Proto Cyber Dragons when they are released, as well as Cyber
Barrier Dragon and Cyber Laser Dragon.
To conclude my thoughts, I would just like to say thank you
to those who read my article, thank you to Pojo for posting
it, and I hope I gave my readers a greater understanding of
the true use of Cyber Dragons.
Thanks again,
Matt
